On August 17, Tu Du Hospital (HCMC) organized the 23rd Vietnam - France - Asia - Pacific Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference, the 16th Asia - Pacific Maternal and Fetal Medicine Association.
At this conference, Dr. CK.2 Tran Hoc Hai, Director of Tu Du Hospital, presented the topic: Current trends in obstetrics and gynecology, experience of Tu Du Hospital.
According to Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Tu Du Hospital has set out a strategy of "safe birth, mother and child are safe". The goal is to reduce maternal mortality; reduce perinatal mortality (pregnancy from week 28 to the end of the first week after birth); diagnose fetal abnormalities before birth and intervene in treatment right from the fetus...
Reduce maternal mortality
According to statistics, Vietnam is a country with low maternal mortality, with about 124 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. The cause is often due to severe obstetric complications such as uterine rupture, placenta accreta, pulmonary embolism, etc.
At Tu Du Hospital, in 2022, there were 7 emergency cases of uterine rupture and 241 cases of placenta accreta. Most of the cases of uterine rupture outside the hospital were promptly treated by Tu Du Hospital. The rate of uterine preservation surgery in placenta accreta is more than 90% of cases, with new surgical techniques, helping to reduce blood loss during placenta accreta surgery.
"In the strategy to reduce maternal mortality, saving the lives of patients with pulmonary embolism is a new step forward in diagnosing and treating obstetric complications. The maternal mortality rate at Tu Du Hospital has always been kept low," said Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai.
Reduce neonatal mortality
Along with that, at Tu Du Hospital, the neonatal mortality rate is getting lower and decreasing over the years. The survival rate of premature babies, especially extremely premature babies under 26 weeks, is increasing thanks to the full range of modern and specialized neonatal resuscitation equipment.
Every day, the Neonatal Department of Tu Du Hospital receives, treats and cares for more than 200 newborns, of which 30-40% need intensive neonatal resuscitation.
Contributing significantly to the survival rate of premature babies is the human milk bank established in 2019 at Tu Du Hospital. With the amount of donated human milk increasing every year, up to nearly 6,722 liters in 2022, of which 6,141 liters were used during the year.
Prenatal diagnosis
According to Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, improving the quality of the future population is an urgent task of Tu Du Hospital in the general trend of world medicine. Advances in prenatal screening and modern diagnostic imaging equipment have helped detect congenital abnormalities very early in the first 3 months of pregnancy such as mermaid syndrome, Cantrel's pentalogy, Ebstein's anomaly, etc.
In addition, specialized fields such as medical genetics have also made many new advances such as blood Karyotype testing. infertility diagnosis, miscarriage; embryo genetic testing (PGT); double test, triple test prenatal screening; non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPT); fetal genetic testing; prenatal diagnosis of fetal thalassemia; newborn screening for congenital diseases, screening for metabolic disorders in infants…
With the goal of early detection of abnormalities and timely intervention of the fetus, the hospital is always at the forefront of improving technical expertise, training and transferring high technical expertise to lower levels, building a widespread prenatal and newborn screening network, and enhancing communication and awareness of the community and society.
In 2022, Tu Du Hospital screened and diagnosed 21,602 cases of congenital abnormalities. Of these, 2,590 cases received timely fetal intervention or termination.
Another strategic focus of Tu Du Hospital is the treatment of gynecological diseases using minimally invasive methods, such as laparoscopic surgery, radiofrequency ablation (RFA)...
According to statistics, the number of laparoscopic surgery cases at Tu Du Hospital is increasing every year, with more than 11,000 cases treated by laparoscopic surgery in 2022, accounting for more than 70% of gynecological surgery cases...
The Vietnam - France - Asia - Pacific Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference took place on August 17 and 18. This is considered a medical forum with the participation of more than 73 reporters who are professors, doctors, and experts from the Vietnam - France - Asia - Pacific Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (VFAP), the Asia - Pacific Association of Maternal and Fetal Medicine (APCMFM), the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO), Tu Du Hospital and several other hospitals.
The conference was attended by more than 2,700 delegates (400 international delegates) with reports on practical medical issues as well as "hot spots" in women's reproductive health care.
