With the emergence of many large tournaments with diverse types and methods of competition such as marathon, tennis, volleyball, chess... but the Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament still attracts a large number of journalists to participate every year, in which the number of new faces and supporters is increasing.

Continuing the successes of previous years, the 16th Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament - 2023 attracted a large number of athletes from participating delegations - this is considered a very encouraging signal, ensuring the number of athletes, promising exciting and unique matches.

Talking about the preparations for the new season, Ms. Le My Ai Linh - Acting Director of the Center for Journalism and Culture, Vietnam Journalists Association said that up to now, the Organizing Committee has recorded 40 registered delegations with 190 athletes participating.

Some typical teams, considered formidable opponents in the tournament, are Vietnam Television, which sent the largest force to participate in the tournament with 27 athletes. Athletes from the People's Army Newspaper participated in 5 events: Men's team, men's doubles, men's doubles with leaders, men's singles over 45 years old and men's singles under 45 years old.

According to Ms. Le My Ai Linh, the Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament has been around for 16 years. This is an annual activity, of great significance, contributing to the movement of the entire population to practice physical exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho. In particular, the tournament is also an opportunity for press units to exchange culture, share experiences, enhance mutual understanding, and strengthen solidarity between agencies, units and members of those agencies and units.

At the same time, the Tournament will help journalists to exercise, encourage and motivate the spirit of cadres, employees and workers of the units after tiring working hours. Such sports competitions also contribute to improving the effectiveness of the construction and protection of the Vietnamese Fatherland.

"This year's tournament attracted many athletes from many provinces and cities, the furthest of which is Ho Chi Minh City. This is an annual tournament for amateur athletes who are members of the Vietnam Journalists Association or people working in press agencies. Although it is a grassroots tournament, it is organized elaborately and carefully according to the standards of a professional table tennis tournament," Ms. Le My Ai Linh emphasized.

Ms. Le My Ai Linh said that table tennis is a competitive sport that many people practice and compete in. The Organizing Committee uses tables, balls and mats, and all equipment meets the standards for practice and competition in professional tournaments of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation.

Create an attractive, fairplay playground

Over the past 16 years, the Vietnam Journalists Association has accompanied the Hanoi People's Committee to organize the Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament and has constantly innovated, step by step towards making the tournament organization more and more professional, with many methods to improve expertise, creating attraction and exciting competition among athletes of all delegations.

Explaining that among many sports, table tennis still maintains its "heat", Ms. Le My Ai Linh said that, with the characteristics of being easy to play, low investment and equipment costs, not requiring much space, not limiting the number of participants... table tennis is currently being developed and practiced by many journalists across the country.

The sophistication of table tennis is expressed in the skill and precision of the players. This requires players to observe well, react quickly and move well. The excitement of table tennis matches is not inferior to that of basketball or football matches.

Many clubs have been established and operate in an orderly and effective manner; many table tennis competitions and exchanges have been organized, in which the Vietnam Journalists Association Table Tennis Cup is always considered an annual "meeting place" for players who have a passion for the "small ball".

"The selection of referees is also given special attention by the Organizing Committee, in order to create a healthy, fair and highly professional playground towards a fairplay season - a season of civilization and nobility," Ms. Le My Ai Linh shared.

The 16th Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament - 2023 will take place from December 13 to 15, at Trinh Hoai Duc Gymnasium (Dong Da, Hanoi). The opening and closing ceremonies of the Tournament will be broadcast live on Hanoi Radio and Television. In addition, some matches on the final day will also be broadcast online.
