On July 2, the Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that he had just "rescued" a pregnant patient who had been "fabricated with illness and extorted for money" by Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic.
Accordingly, on June 28, the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health received information from the people about the case of a patient named NTK who was being kept by Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic (34-36 Dinh Tien Hoang, Da Kao Ward, District 1) to "fake illness and extort money".
Immediately, the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health coordinated with the Internal Political Security Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Police (PA03) to inspect the activities at Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic and rescue the patient.
Patient NTK told the Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health that, through an online advertisement, the patient went to Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic for examination and consultation on pregnancy termination services at a cost of about 20 million VND.
But while the patient was in the operating room of Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic to perform the procedure, the doctor there said that if the patient wanted to be painless and safe, he had to choose a service package that cost more than 60 million VND.
Because he was too scared because he was lying on the operating table, the patient agreed. But because he had no money to pay, the patient had to owe the clinic and call his family to pay the full amount before he could leave.
"Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic has signs of "faking illnesses and extorting money" from patients and has many violations in medical examination and treatment activities. The Department of Health Inspectorate is continuing to compile documents to handle the clinic and related individuals according to the law," informed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Inspectorate.
The Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also said that they will resolutely handle clinics that show signs of "faking illnesses and extorting money" from patients to ensure the health safety of people in Ho Chi Minh City. They asked people to immediately report to the Department of Health or local authorities when discovering facilities that show signs of violations in the medical field for timely handling according to the law.
The Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health recommends that before going to medical examination and treatment facilities, people should research and choose reputable medical facilities to receive safe and effective treatment.
A few days ago, Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic was fined 4.7 million VND by the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health for keeping a medical examination and treatment record but not recording it fully according to the law; and not wearing a name tag.
Nurse Doan Thi Kim Tien of Dinh Tien Hoang General Clinic was fined 7.5 million VND for prescribing medical examination and treatment services for personal gain; her medical practice certificate was revoked for 2 months.
In December 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued a Rapid Response Procedure for receiving information and handling violations of the law related to practicing in the medical field.
Accordingly, when people discover violations in the medical field, they can immediately report them to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health via the "online medical" application, the Department of Health's hotline (0967771010) and the hotline specializing in receiving information about "fake illnesses and extortion" directly received and processed by the Department of Health Inspectorate (0989401155).
