An update on airfares from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam shows that airfares during the peak summer season have “cooled down” and have not yet reached the ceiling price. If passengers are willing to fly at night, the price will be cheaper than during the day.
Ticket prices hit 80% of maximum price
According to the assessment of the leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the ticket prices on domestic flights (mainline and tourist) in basic economy class (excluding taxes and fees) being announced by Vietnamese airlines are significantly lower than the maximum price for domestic air transport services in basic economy class as prescribed by the Ministry of Transport.
In June, ticket prices are equivalent to 13-80% of the maximum price on flights. Specifically, if traveling on June 8, Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route, Vietnam Airlines has prices ranging from 1.26-2.9 million VND (equivalent to 37-86.4% of the maximum price as prescribed which is 3.4 million VND); Vietravel Airlines has prices ranging from 1-1.2 million VND (equivalent to 29.6-35.2% of the maximum price as prescribed).
On the Hanoi-Da Nang route, Vietnam Airlines has prices ranging from 0.7-1.8 million VND (equivalent to 25-62% of the maximum regulated price of 2.89 million VND); Vietjet Air has prices ranging from 0.4-1.7 million VND (equivalent to 13.5-57.1% of the maximum regulated price).
For the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route, Vietnam Airlines announced a price of VND2.3 million (equivalent to 56.7% of the maximum price as regulated of VND4 million); Vietjet Air has prices ranging from VND1.4-2 million (equivalent to 34.8-51% of the maximum price as regulated).
When booking for further dates, airlines have lower fares available for passengers to choose from. In July, fares are equivalent to 20-70% of the maximum on flights.
For example, if you book a flight on Saturday (July 13), Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route, Vietnam Airlines has prices ranging from 1.1-1.7 million VND (equivalent to 31-48% of the maximum price as regulated of 3.4 million VND); Vietjet Air has prices ranging from 0.8-1.3 million VND (equivalent to 23.2-37.9% of the maximum price as regulated).
For the Hanoi-Da Nang route, Vietnam Airlines has prices ranging from 0.6-1.8 million VND (equivalent to 21-62% of the maximum price as prescribed, which is 2.89 million VND); Vietravel Airlines has prices ranging from 0.6-1.4 million VND (equivalent to 20-47% of the maximum price as prescribed).
On the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route, Vietnam Airlines announced prices ranging from 2.3-2.8 million VND (equivalent to 56.7-70% of the maximum price as regulated of 4 million VND); Vietjet Air has prices ranging from 1.2-1.8 million VND (equivalent to 30-45% of the maximum price as regulated).
Fly lower at night than during the day
From June 10, Vietjet will increase a series of night flights on many routes to meet travel demand during the peak summer season.
Flights depart from 1:00 a.m. to about 2:30 a.m., mainly on tourist routes to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, Vinh, Nha Trang, Hai Phong, etc.
"Vietjet's night flight ticket prices will be lower than daytime flights to create more convenient travel options for people and tourists," said a Vietjet representative.
Vietjet's night flights this time increased by approximately 46% compared to normal, equivalent to 3,100 night flights across the entire flight network. This summer, Vietjet provided a total of 1.4 million additional tickets, equivalent to an increase of approximately 35% in domestic supply capacity to serve tourists on domestic tourist routes.
Regarding the international flight network, Vietjet doubled the flight frequency between Nha Trang and Busan (South Korea) to 14 round-trip flights per week, opened new routes Hanoi-Melbourne on June 3, Hanoi-Sydney from June 8 and increased the frequency on many international routes to serve the increased demand during the summer.
Vietnam Airlines operates and opens additional flights in the late hours after 9:00 p.m. every day on routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, etc. to provide more options for passengers in the context of reduced supply due to the impact of engine recall.
“With night and early morning flights, the supply of fares is still abundant on many routes and passengers can easily choose the itinerary with the most suitable price within their budget,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Faced with the large number of aircraft being temporarily grounded due to engine recalls, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just issued a directive on enhancing aviation safety measures in the context that airlines have optimized to increase aircraft usage time to maintain operations and meet the transportation needs of the Vietnamese aviation industry.
