The price of USD on the free market increased sharply, becoming more expensive by more than 200 VND. Meanwhile, the price of USD at commercial banks continued to hit the ceiling for the third consecutive session.
Along with the strong increase in banking channels, the USD price in the free market has also increased rapidly recently.
Today (October 24), foreign exchange points in the free market traded USD at a common price of 25,700-25,800 VND/USD (buy - sell). Compared to the previous session, the free USD price increased by 240 VND in both buying and selling directions.
Over the past week, the USD price on the free market has increased by about 440 VND in both buying and selling.
Although increasing rapidly, compared to the peak of 25,950-26,030 VND/USD (buy - sell) set on June 27, the current free USD price is still 250 VND lower for buying and 230 VND cheaper for selling.
The State Bank announced the central exchange rate between the Vietnamese Dong and the USD today at 24,260 VND per USD, an increase of 10 VND compared to yesterday's listed rate.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade today at a ceiling rate of VND25,473/USD and a floor rate of VND23,047/USD.
The reference USD selling rate was adjusted by the State Bank of Vietnam to increase by 10 VND compared to the previous session, to 25,422 VND/USD. Meanwhile, the reference USD buying rate was maintained at 23,400 VND/USD.
The USD price at commercial banks continued to increase today, but the increase was much narrower compared to the increase of hundreds of dong in the previous two sessions.
The selling price of USD at all banks today increased by 11 VND and was listed at the ceiling price of 25,473 VND/USD. This is the third consecutive session that the selling price of USD at banks has increased to the ceiling price.
The USD buying price was adjusted to increase slightly with a common amplitude of 4-20 VND compared to early this morning (October 23).
Specifically, today, Vietcombank raised the USD cash buying price to 25,203 VND/USD, an increase of 13 VND compared to early this morning.
Similarly, compared to the beginning of yesterday's session, the USD buying price at BIDV increased by 8 VND, to 25,233 VND/USD. VietinBank also raised the USD buying price to 25,238 VND/USD, an increase of 18 VND.
Techcombank increased its buying price by 4 VND compared to early this morning, to 25,223 VND/USD. Sacombank raised its USD buying price to 25,230 VND/USD, up 10 VND. Eximbank also increased its USD buying price by 20 VND, to 25,190 VND/USD.
The buying price of USD at banks is about 500 VND lower and the selling price of USD is 327 VND lower than the free market.
In the world market, the USD price tends to slow down after reaching its highest level in the past two and a half months.
The US Dollar Index (measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies) at 1:57 p.m. on October 24 (Vietnam time) was at 104.34 points, down 0.09% from the previous session.
