DNVN - In the trading session on January 9, 2025, coffee prices continued to increase for the third consecutive session, reaching an average of VND 121,300/kg. Pepper increased by about VND 500/kg, with prices in key areas exceeding VND 150,000/kg.
Coffee price developments
At the end of the trading session, the price of Robusta coffee on the London floor at 5:00 a.m. on January 9, 2025 decreased sharply compared to the previous session, ranging from 4,709 - 4,956 USD/ton, down from 40 - 63 USD/ton. Specifically, the March 2025 term reached 4,956 USD/ton (down 63 USD/ton), the May 2025 term recorded 4,877 USD/ton (down 53 USD/ton), the July 2025 term was at 4,795 USD/ton (down 44 USD/ton) and the September 2025 term was 4,709 USD/ton (down 40 USD/ton).
On the New York floor, Arabica coffee prices also fell sharply, ranging from 301.60 - 316.45 cents/lb, down 4.05 - 4.50 cents/lb. Specifically, the March 2025 term reached 316.45 cents/lb (down 4.05 cents/lb), the May 2025 term was at 313.00 cents/lb (down 4.30 cents/lb), the July 2025 term was 307.95 cents/lb (down 4.45 cents/lb) and the September 2025 term was 301.60 cents/lb (down 4.50 cents/lb).
In the Brazilian Arabica coffee market, prices on the morning of January 9, 2025 decreased by 0.20 - 5.90 USD/ton, ranging from 373.10 - 395.50 USD/ton, except for the March 2025 term, which increased by 2.80 USD/ton, reaching 400.10 USD/ton.
Pepper market continues to rise
At 5:00 a.m. on January 9, 2025, domestic pepper prices increased for the third consecutive session, reaching an average of VND 121,300/kg, an increase of VND 400/kg.
Coffee prices in the key Central Highlands regions recorded the highest level of 121,500 VND/kg. Dak Lak reached 121,300 VND/kg (up 300 VND/kg), Lam Dong had a price of 120,500 VND/kg (up 200 VND/kg), Gia Lai reached 121,200 VND/kg (up 400 VND/kg) and Dak Nong led with 121,500 VND/kg (up 500 VND/kg).
2024 is set to be a record year for Vietnam’s coffee exports. However, unseasonal rains have delayed the 2024-2025 harvest, raising concerns about quality.
Thanks to the price increase, many farmers feel more secure in production, although they still face difficulties. Experts predict that domestic coffee prices will increase slightly in the coming time.
Domestic pepper prices continued to increase slightly today, with an average increase of 500 VND/kg. In Gia Lai, pepper prices are currently at 150,000 VND/kg (up 500 VND/kg), Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc remain stable at 150,000 VND/kg, Dak Nong and Dak Lak reach 151,000 VND/kg (up 500 VND/kg).
World pepper prices fluctuate
According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), pepper prices in different countries tend to be inconsistent. Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) prices decreased by 14 USD/ton to 6,838 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper decreased by 17 USD/ton to 8,949 USD/ton.
The Malaysian market is stable, with ASTA black pepper prices remaining at 8,600 USD/ton and ASTA white pepper reaching 10,900 USD/ton. On the contrary, Brazilian pepper prices recovered and increased by 25 USD/ton to 6,350 USD/ton.
Domestic pepper prices are forecast to increase by 500 - 1,500 VND/kg, with Dak Nong likely to lead, reaching about 152,000 - 153,000 VND/kg, other areas such as Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc may reach 150,500 VND/kg.
