In Dak Lak, Cu M'gar district reported an increase of 100 VND/kg, reaching 120,800 VND/kg, while Ea H'leo and Buon Ho town were at 120,700 VND/kg.

Mr. Vo Dinh Danh, Director of Dak Mil Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, said that coffee prices have increased sharply since the 2023-2024 crop year, making it difficult to purchase fresh coffee that meets 4C and organic standards to produce specialty coffee. The cooperative needs fresh coffee with a ripe fruit rate of 80-100%, but last season it only reached 60-70% because farmers picked early for fear of theft, affecting the purchase of quality raw materials.

Mr. Danh is concerned that the situation of picking unripe coffee beans may continue, making it difficult for the cooperative to purchase 100 tons of clean coffee beans. Picking unripe coffee beans not only reduces the output of clean coffee but also affects the reputation of Vietnamese coffee in the long term. Mr. Danh and the cooperative are working with the government to encourage farmers to pick only ripe coffee and protect their coffee plantations to ensure quality.

Pepper prices fell sharply

The Southeast region also recorded a decrease in pepper prices from 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg. Binh Phuoc traded at 149,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND compared to yesterday. Ba Ria - Vung Tau decreased by 2,000 VND, to 149,000 VND/kg.

In summary, domestic pepper prices decreased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg in key localities, with the highest price reaching 150,000 VND/kg.

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper reached 6,963 USD/ton, up 0.62%. The price of Muntok white pepper increased 0.61%, reaching 9,458 USD/ton.

Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper prices fell 2.22% to $6,750/ton, while Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained at $8,800/ton and ASTA white pepper at $11,200/ton.

Vietnam black pepper prices remained stable with 500 g/l at $6,800/ton and 550 g/l at $7,100/ton. Vietnam white pepper prices stood at $10,150/ton.

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecasts that world pepper prices will continue to remain high in the short term due to limited supply. Meanwhile, Brazil and Indonesia are in the harvest season, but demand is not increasing strongly, causing prices to only increase slightly.

In the long term, pepper export prices will continue to be supported by the expected decrease in Vietnam's 2025 crop output. Vietnam's 2025 pepper crop will be harvested in February and last until March and April, 1-2 months later than previous years due to prolonged drought, making pepper supply more difficult.

In addition, the Import-Export Department forecasts that the Vietnamese pepper industry will benefit from high export prices. According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), pepper is almost gone among the people, remaining only at agents and business warehouses.

Stocks from the 2023 crop plus 2024 imports are estimated at around 40,000 - 45,000 tonnes, suggesting that export volumes will be lower than in previous years, at least until March 2025 when the new crop is harvested.

Data from the General Department of Customs shows that in the first 8 months of the year, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 182.93 thousand tons, worth 877.98 million USD, down 2.7% in volume, but up 42.8% in value over the same period in 2023 thanks to high pepper prices.
