Domestically, coffee prices in the Central Highlands last week recorded trading levels of VND129,500 - 129,700/kg, an increase of VND4,500 - 5,300/kg compared to the previous week. Globally, coffee prices on the London and New York exchanges both increased by 3 - 5% during the same period.

The London Stock Exchange is currently closed for the Easter holiday in many major countries until Monday. Meanwhile, the New York Stock Exchange is also closed today and will resume trading for a half day next Monday.

Safras & Mercado has updated its forecast for Brazil’s coffee production in 2025–26, reversing its initial assessment of a decline, raising its arabica output from 38.35 million bags to around 40 million bags, or even higher. While total production is still lower than last year, the decline is considered less significant than initially predicted.

In Vietnam, prolonged drought in some areas of the Central Highlands is negatively affecting this year’s coffee crop. Farmers in Dak Nong are facing many difficulties when facing a serious shortage of irrigation water in the middle of the dry season.

Many businesses said they will have to change their business strategies to adapt to the situation, such as boosting domestic exports, increasing product value and expanding markets to avoid being passive.

The Import-Export Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that Vietnam's coffee exports in the short term will continue to have a positive trend.

However, in the long term, Vietnamese coffee exports may face obstacles due to a decrease in domestic supply at the end of the season, pressure from the new harvest in Brazil and changes in tariff policies.

Meanwhile, pepper prices remain stable.

Pepper prices in the domestic market recorded at 5:00 a.m. on April 21, 2025 remained unchanged after the previous sharp decline. Currently, the average purchase price is 155,400 VND/kg in key areas.

In Gia Lai province, pepper prices remained the same as the previous day, currently at 155,000 VND/kg.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, the market fluctuates little and prices remain high, currently pepper is purchased at 155,000 VND/kg.

In Binh Phuoc, pepper prices remain stable as in the previous session, currently being purchased at 155,000 VND/kg.

Pepper prices in Dak Nong and Dak Lak remain stable after the latest decline, being purchased at VND156,000/kg in both localities.

The international pepper market situation updated at 5:00 a.m. on April 21, 2025 from IPC shows that prices remain stable after many consecutive sessions of increase and decrease.

Specifically, the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) is currently at 7,056 USD/ton; Muntok white pepper from the same country is traded at 9,641 USD/ton.

Malaysian pepper prices also remained stable, currently ASTA black pepper is sold at 9,600 USD/ton; ASTA white pepper is priced at 12,100 USD/ton.

Brazilian pepper prices stabilized after the previous increase, currently trading at $6,900/ton.

Vietnam's pepper export prices are currently unchanged from the previous sharp increase. Specifically, black pepper of 500 g/l is priced at 6,800 USD/ton, 550 g/l is priced at 6,900 USD/ton and white pepper is being sold at 9,800 USD/ton.

Last week, domestic pepper prices tended to increase in the middle of the week but quickly adjusted down towards the end of the week.

Pepper prices in Dak Nong and Dak Lak decreased by VND500 and VND1,000/kg respectively compared to last week, while Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc recorded an increase of VND1,000/kg. In Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Dong Nai, pepper prices remained unchanged.

The domestic pepper market is currently experiencing slight fluctuations as it enters the peak harvest season. However, prices remain stable thanks to support from many factors. Although it is the main harvest season, the amount of pepper brought to the market is not much because farmers tend to hoard their products thanks to good income from the coffee crop. In addition, purchasing power from speculators and traders also contributes to maintaining current prices.
