On October 13, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (PA05) - Ho Chi Minh City Police said that it had just coordinated with District 1 Police to fine 3 people for advertising fake brands and transportation services in Ho Chi Minh City.
One of the people fined for impersonating a taxi company
Accordingly, through inspection, PA05 discovered that some drivers accepted passenger trips through fake call centers. Many drivers confessed to paying fees to join a private chat group on the social network Zalo, to receive car bookings in Ho Chi Minh City. If they carried passengers, drivers had to pay 15% of the total fare.
PA05 coordinated with units to summon LVH (33 years old, residing in Binh Duong province). H. confessed to creating many websites to operate taxi services. These sites purchased advertising services, prioritized to appear on search pages, when users searched for taxi companies, it would display "Taxi switchboard...".
When customers call to book a car, this person pretends to be the operator of "Mai Linh taxi", "Vinasun taxi", "Mai Linh HCM taxi"... to receive the car dispatch. When he has the pick-up point information, this person sends a message to a private group, gathering many freelance drivers from outside to pick up customers.
To join this closed group, drivers must pay a fee of 300,000 VND/month. For each successful trip, drivers must pay the group administrator 15% of the total fare.
People in this group are punished
PA05 said that the actions of these people violated regulations on commercial activities, production, trade of counterfeit and prohibited goods and protection of consumer rights. This action caused great losses for traditional taxi transport companies, outraged public opinion, and negatively affected tourism and security and order.
District 1 Police have administratively fined many administrators and drivers participating in this group from 7.5 million VND to 15 million VND for collecting, processing and using information of other organizations without consent or for purposes other than those prescribed by law and for providing information, trading in counterfeit goods, goods and services that infringe intellectual property rights or goods and services prohibited from trading on the internet environment.
