In the North, the market today did not record any changes in the price of live pigs. Currently, the price remains stable, ranging from 67,000 to 69,000 VND/kg.
Localities including Hanoi, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Vinh Phuc all kept the same price as on the previous trading day.
Due to the stable price over the past few days, the North is still the region with the lowest pork price in the country.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central region, the price of live pigs on April 10, 2025 continued to show a positive trend when many provinces increased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa were the places that recorded a clear increase.
Currently, the price of live pigs in this region fluctuates from 68,000 to 71,000 VND/kg, in which Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan peaked at 71,000 VND/kg. Pig prices in the Central region are approaching high levels compared to other regions, reflecting strong signs of recovery.
Pig price in the Southern region
In the South, the price of live pigs today, April 10, 2025, continued to increase when some localities adjusted the price up by 1,000 VND/kg. Provinces such as Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, An Giang and Tien Giang recorded an increase compared to the previous session, showing the market's revival.
Currently, prices in the South fluctuate between 70,000 and 73,000 VND/kg. Of which, Ca Mau continues to be the leading locality in the country in terms of price with 73,000 VND/kg, while Hau Giang, Kien Giang and Tay Ninh remain stable at 72,000 VND/kg. The Southern region is witnessing stability and high growth expectations.
Experts assess that the slight increase in pork prices in many places is a positive sign in the context of no major fluctuations in supply, but increasing demand as businesses, schools, and collective kitchens enter the peak season to serve the April 30 - May 1 holidays.
In the coming time, the price of live pigs may continue to increase slightly in some provinces in the North and Central regions if purchasing power increases while supply does not fluctuate much.
In Cho Gao district, the price of live pigs at this time fluctuates from 7.4 to 7.5 million VND/quintal, down about 1 million VND/quintal compared to the same period last month.
According to an official from the People's Committee of Xuan Dong Commune (Cho Gao District), the total herd of pigs in the commune currently has tens of thousands, mainly raised on large farms. Although prices have tended to decrease in recent days, farmers still maintain a certain level of profit.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tam's family (living in Binh Tan commune, Go Cong Tay district) is raising more than 30 pigs of various types. According to Mr. Tam, last month the family sold 5 pigs at a price of 8.3 million VND/quintal, however, in the past 10 days, the price has dropped to about 7.3 million VND/quintal.
Mr. Tam shared: “At this price level, pig farmers still make a profit, but not as much as before, the profit is nearly 2 million VND/quintal. The current difficulty is that the price of piglets is too high. If farmers re-herd now, there will be many risks in terms of price and disease.”
In Tan Phu Dong district, the price of live pigs has also dropped quite sharply at the present time. Mr. Duong Tan Si's family (Tan Thoi commune, Tan Phu Dong district) is raising more than 300 pigs of various types. According to Mr. Si, the price of live pigs in the locality has dropped to about 7.3 million VND/quintal.
“A month ago, my family sold 115 pigs for 8.35 million VND/quintal. If the pigs were not infected with disease, a price of 6 million VND/quintal would be the dream of farmers. Therefore, if the price of live pigs is 7.3 million VND/quintal, farmers would still make a profit of more than 2 million VND/pig.
Although the price of live pigs remains high, farmers are still hesitant to restock due to concerns about disease. The disease is not like before. Previously, the peak of the disease was in September and October, but now the disease still occurs during the dry season. Raising pigs is very precarious now," Mr. Si shared.
According to the assessment of livestock farmers in Tien Giang, the reason for the sharp increase in pork prices in the past was due to a shortage of domestic supply. After a series of days of price increases, to stabilize the market, the Government has allowed the import of frozen pork in large quantities. This is considered the main reason for the sharp decrease in pork prices in the province recently. It is forecasted that in the coming days, the price of live pigs will likely continue to decrease.
