The Southern region continues to lead the country in terms of live pig prices, with a slight upward trend in some localities.
According to experts, the South is still maintaining peak prices, while the North and Central regions have seen upward adjustments. If market demand continues to be high, prices are likely to fluctuate in the coming time.
Since the Lunar New Year, the price of live pigs has increased by 3,000 VND/kg. Currently, traders buy pigs at the farm at 69,000 - 72,000 VND/kg, about 18,000 VND/kg higher than the same period last year.
Mr. Tran Truong Giang, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, said: "With this selling price, farmers earn a profit of over 19,000 VND/kg". The high price creates favorable conditions for farmers and production facilities in the province to quickly restore and "replenish" their herds after Tet to meet the consumption demand during the upcoming big holiday, while maintaining a stable supply in the market.
By the end of 2024, Tra Vinh's total pig herd will reach 295,000, an increase of 51,570 compared to the original plan. In 2025, the province aims to increase the total herd to 300,000. The local agricultural sector is restructuring livestock farming according to the value chain, ensuring biosafety, disease control and environmental protection.
In addition, Tra Vinh continues to expand the large-scale concentrated livestock farming model, associated with livestock product processing industry and ensuring food safety to meet market demand.
Currently, the province has 762 livestock and poultry farms; of which, 5 facilities have achieved VietGAP livestock certification, 8 pig farms and 18 broiler farms participate in the chain of large enterprises such as Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Greenfeed Company and Vietlight Company.
Tra Vinh province is implementing a policy to support livestock development according to Decree 106/2024/ND-CP issued on August 1, 2024 by the Government, with many incentives for organizations, individuals, cooperatives, and businesses operating in this field. This is considered an important opportunity to help Tra Vinh promote sustainable livestock development.
Accordingly, organizations and individuals in the livestock sector can access support policies such as: producing feed from domestic raw materials, developing livestock product markets, moving facilities out of prohibited livestock areas, supporting artificial insemination for buffalo, cows, pigs, as well as purchasing high-quality breeds for buffalo, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, deer and poultry. In addition, policies to encourage livestock waste treatment are also applied to ensure the environment.
