DNVN - The price of live pigs on December 15, 2024 showed that the North and the Central Highlands maintained stable prices, while the South had slight adjustments in some localities.
Pig price in the North
On the morning of December 15, the Northern market recorded unchanged prices, ranging from 63,000 - 65,000 VND/kg. Provinces such as Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Giang and Phu Tho continued to lead with the highest prices in the region, reaching 65,000 VND/kg.
In contrast, the lowest price was recorded in Yen Bai, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces, at VND63,000/kg. Overall, the Northern region is still the place with the highest price of live pigs in the country.
Pig price in Central Highlands
The Central Highlands region continued to maintain prices unchanged from the previous day, with prices ranging from 62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg. Some provinces such as Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Khanh Hoa had the lowest prices in the region, reaching 62,000 VND/kg.
In contrast, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces reported the highest prices in the region, reaching 64,000 VND/kg. Recently, the market in this region has remained stable, without significant fluctuations.
Pig price in the South
The South was the only region that recorded a price adjustment on the day. In Dong Thap, the price increased by VND1,000/kg, reaching VND64,000/kg, which is also the highest price in the region. Provinces such as Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An and Can Tho are also maintaining the price of VND64,000/kg.
Meanwhile, localities including Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Ben Tre maintained the lowest prices in the region, ranging from 62,000 VND/kg. The price difference between localities in the Southern region is about 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.
Forecast of pig market at the end of the year
Based on the current situation, the price of live pigs is likely to remain stable or may increase slightly in some areas. The main reasons come from the following factors:
- The high demand for pork consumption at the end of the year, especially near Tet, has promoted purchasing activities from breeders and traders.
- The pig herd size in many places has not fully recovered from the impact of the epidemic, leading to limited supply.
- High animal feed prices continue to put pressure on pig prices in the short term.
Although current prices benefit farmers, this is also a big challenge for processors and traders in ensuring a stable supply. The pork market at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year 2024 is still considered a hot spot to watch.
Gia Lai develops disease-free livestock farming
Gia Lai province is focusing on developing disease-free livestock farming models to increase product value. Currently, the province has 24 pig farms that meet disease-free standards, mainly preventing classical swine fever and African swine fever, according to information from the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine of Gia Lai province. This is considered an important step to protect the livestock industry from disease risks.
Leaders of the agricultural sector of Gia Lai province said that the province will step up propaganda and support businesses in building more livestock farms that meet disease safety standards. In addition, Gia Lai will coordinate with veterinary agencies to implement large-scale disease control, helping to limit risks and create conditions for livestock products to access large markets, increasing export value.
