Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation, Ms. Phan Thuy Linh said: "The heartbreaking incident happened while athlete Nguyen Minh Triet was practicing with the Vietnam Youth Gymnastics Team at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi. Triet was practicing the acrobatic track, performing 2 somersaults and then turning 360 degrees. Due to losing his sense of air, he fell headfirst into the sucking hole, his limbs became paralyzed and he was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment and surgery immediately afterwards. However, due to severe neck injuries, doctors diagnosed that his recovery would be difficult."
Leaders of the sports sector, the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation, and the Military Sports Training Center also regularly visited, presented gifts, and encouraged the family. The Hanoi National Sports Training Center also covered all treatment costs for athlete Nguyen Minh Triet in accordance with regulations.

"Athlete Nguyen Minh Triet currently has spinal cord paralysis and collapsed pneumonia, and his chances of recovery are very low. Therefore, the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation has called for support and hopes to receive kind hearts to support him in his long treatment journey. Sports units and the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation have also launched a fundraising campaign to support athlete Triet," said Ms. Phan Thuy Linh.
Athlete Nguyen Minh Triet is 17 years old this year, a talented athlete. His family situation is very difficult. Triet's father is over 60 years old and retired, his mother has cancer. Triet has an older brother who is sick and unable to work and a 5-year-old sister. Every month, he sends all the salary he receives from the team to his parents.

Athlete Nguyen Minh Triet's father - Mr. Nguyen Huu Minh choked up and said: "My family is in difficult circumstances. Triet, although young, has had to shoulder and take care of the family. Now that he has unfortunately met with this accident, my family is very sad. While the family is confused, fortunately everything has been taken care of by the agencies, and leaders at all levels often visit him. Now we just hope that our son will be healthy and well again."
"All contributions from organizations and individuals through the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation account will be made public by the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation on its fanpage and delivered directly to the family of athlete Nguyen Minh Triet," said Ms. Phan Thuy Linh.
