“We were in Hai Phong, traveling to Ha Long, staying at the Dao Garden area in Bai Chay. At dusk, the power went out. The hotel owner informed us that the power would be out until 8pm, but by 10pm, it was still not back on. The whole family had to move to the Tuan Chau gate area to rent a motel to stay overnight.

The next day, my family planned to go to Tuan Chau to play but heard that there was a power outage there. So early this morning, the whole family checked out and returned to Do Son because Hai Phong does not have such a large power outage situation," the tourist shared on a social group.

Also informing VTC News about the power outage, Ms. Do Thi Lan, CEO of Viethouse Travel, said that her company specializes in guiding tourist tours and also operates hotels in Ha Long City. In recent days, widespread power outages have significantly affected Viethouse Travel's business activities.

According to Ms. Lan, this situation has been going on for nearly 10 days now, all hotel and restaurant businesses have been affected, however the most disadvantaged are still tourists.

“It’s really depressing. In recent days, Ha Long has been likened to a city that lives at night, but it’s not because of the development of night services, but because people flock to the beaches and streets to enjoy the breeze because many hotels and residential areas have lost power. Ha Long’s tourism industry has been significantly affected,” said Ms. Lan.

According to CEO Viethouse Travel, for small hotels of 3 stars or less that do not have the conditions to install their own generators, they will face many difficulties, and restaurants cannot ensure the best service for tourists: " No matter how delicious the food is, if they have to sit and eat in the hot sun without electricity, tourists will not be able to swallow it. That affects the psychology of the guests, causing inhibition and depression ."

Because of these problems, many tourist groups have changed their plans due to fear of power outages in Ha Long.

“Last Saturday, we led a group of tourists to Ha Long. Seeing that there was a power outage, they immediately rented a car to go to Mong Cai to stay there for a night. They only returned the next day when the power outage was over,” said the CEO of Viethouse Travel.

Meanwhile, the owner of a seafood restaurant in Bai Chay ward said that in recent days, the number of customers using the restaurant's dining services has seriously decreased, and the restaurant is always empty despite being in the peak tourist season.

We have prepared a generator, however, the capacity can only be used for a few electric fans, a few light bulbs, and cannot use air conditioning. Therefore, customers only dare to eat quickly and then move on. I think that many people know that Ha Long has had continuous power outages, so they no longer want to travel here and wait for this problem to be resolved before coming. Therefore, the number of customers is completely absent,” said the owner of this restaurant.

Responding to VTC News about the widespread power outages, Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuy - Director of Quang Ninh Department of Tourism said that immediately after realizing the shortcomings, the authorities of Quang Ninh province sent a petition to the electricity industry to fix the problem as soon as possible.

“The power outage was most intense on June 3, which is a common occurrence in many localities across the country. We have identified tourism as a key industry of the locality, so we have worked with the electricity industry to come up with a reasonable plan to ensure business conditions to best serve tourists. As a result, on June 5 and today, June 6, power outages have stopped occurring on a large scale and have initially become more stable. Tourists can rest assured when coming to Ha Long in the coming days,” Mr. Thuy informed.

Meanwhile, information in the Agriculture newspaper said that, according to a representative of Quang Ninh Electricity Company, the continuous power outages in recent days were all due to the mobilization of the National Power System Control Center (A0) to ensure safe operation of the power system during the prolonged heat wave.

EVN Quang Ninh said that on May 31 alone, the province's total electricity consumption reached 930.3 MW (up 13.2% over the same period in 2022). To ensure no power outages and system safety, EVN Quang Ninh and the Department of Industry and Trade regularly monitor the Power System Control Center to regulate the lowest possible reduction, meeting the electricity needs of customers and especially during the 10th grade high school entrance exam.

However, due to unusual weather conditions and reduced capacity at several thermal power plants across the North, EVN Quang Ninh was required by A0 to urgently reduce capacity to 158.7MW.

Therefore, on June 1-2, EVN Quang Ninh had to urgently cut off 78/128 medium voltage power lines in the province from Dong Trieu to Dam Ha. Because the cut was made in an emergency situation, at some times in some areas, Quang Ninh Electricity Company did not send timely text messages to notify electricity customers.
