Singer Dam Vinh Hung has just released the album For the Lost Love . This is also the album that concludes the 18-year-long project Nocturne for Lovers and is closely associated with the male singer's name.
Known as the "king of Vietnamese music", however, Mr. Dam chose not to confine himself to a small coffee shop to hold the debut. According to his explanation, he wanted to bring the guests back to old Saigon with a nostalgic space, soaring music and childhood memories shared for the first time.
Mr. Dam released the album "For Lost Love".
Talking about this, Mr. Dam said: “Over the past 20 years, I have done so many things in so many spaces and everyone knows the level of investment. In this product, I chose a very authentic space, true to the musical spirit of the album so that everyone present here can relive some of the memories of old Saigon.”
This made the space somewhat limited in seating, many guests had to stand outside because they could not get in. This made Dam Vinh Hung feel somewhat guilty. He had to apologize to the guests before starting to introduce the program.
He organized the album launch in a small, cozy space.
Dam Vinh Hung said he was born and raised in Saigon, his childhood memories until adulthood are associated with every street corner, alley, and even the changes of the times. Although he has been to many places, Dam Vinh Hung still has a special love for the beauty of old Saigon. During each Tet holiday, Dam Vinh Hung is also very meticulous when recreating a street with grocery stores, hair salons, barber shops, etc.
“The boy Huynh Minh Hung, when his family was still happy and well-off, was driven around the city by his father on a motorbike. The roads and rows of trees are still deeply engraved in my mind. That same boy, at the age of 7, got lost in Cho Lon area, bewildered and had to be led home. And that same boy, no longer living in peace, climbing fences to listen to singing, growing up with days of making a living and falling in love. There are so many things that have become memories that cannot be told and I have expressed them one by one in my albums,” Dam Vinh Hung confided.
The album For the lost love includes 36 famous lyrical songs by musicians such as Lam Phuong, Tu Cong Phung, Truc Phuong, Chau Ky,... Dam Vinh Hung chose familiar, close songs and then mashup them to fully convey them to the audience.
10 mashups with many famous bolero and lyrical songs such as: Missing my lover again, If we are separated, Midnight rain, I take you across the river, People go outside the street... Each song is a story harmoniously combined from words and melody.
Dam Vinh Hung combines with a series of young singers.
Contributing to Dam Vinh Hung's album this time are Duong Trieu Vu, Trung Quan, Uyen Linh, Truc Nhan and Le Xuan Nghi. Dam Vinh Hung said: "I know that mashups have been done in the world for a long time, but in Vietnam they have only become popular in recent years. I chose to do this for the album and personally "kneaded" each sentence from the melody. It's still the same familiar songs, but everyone will see a new breeze from the song structure to the way of singing, the way of emphasizing and a very new spirit of expression from me and the young people."
Speaking more about the choice of new faces to collaborate with him, Dam Vinh Hung said he really likes the singing style and the way young singers, who are prominent in showbiz today, sing. Each singer has their own way of transforming when singing lyrical music.
Combining with young artists, Dam Vinh Hung still affirms his "nailed" singing voice to the public but no longer has too much vibrato and sentimentality, instead the audience sees a new, sophisticated Dam Vinh Hung.
Besides music, Dam Vinh Hung is also creative with album covers. The male singer once released an album with photos of a yearbook, cassette tapes, etc. He and his team came up with the idea of turning a miniature model of a record player into a limited edition album. In addition, he also released an album including a music CD and postcards.
