On March 11, Friendship Hospital reported that its doctors had removed a nearly 2 cm long metal file staple from the abdomen of a 24-year-old female patient in Hanoi.

Doctor Hoang Viet Dung - Head of General Surgery Department (Friendship Hospital) said that the patient was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of dull lower abdominal pain, increasing pain, no fever, constipation. Examination of the lower abdomen showed pain and reaction. The patient was admitted for examination and CT scan, which discovered a foreign object that had punctured the wall of the small intestine into the abdomen, causing damage to the omentum covering the small intestine. When removed, the doctors found a pseudomembrane and a small amount of pus and a metal foreign object, like a 1.5cm long pin. The doctor removed the foreign object and sutured the endoscopic perforation.

The patient shared that he did not know when he swallowed the foreign object.

According to Dr. Hoang Viet Dung, foreign objects that adults often choke on are toothpicks, chicken bones, razor blades, unopened pills, even toothbrushes, beer bottle caps, etc. As in the case of the patient above, if the foreign object is not removed promptly, it can perforate the small intestine, causing internal bleeding, which is very dangerous. In the late stages, if an abscess forms, the patient will become infected.

Dr. Dung also recommends that people go to the doctor immediately if they have symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, difficulty swallowing, vomiting when trying to eat - these may be symptoms of a foreign object in the esophagus. In some cases, patients feel chest tightness, difficulty breathing, pain accompanied by burning in the area behind the sternum; In the later stages, patients have fever, severe pain in the throat, phlegm and food retention.

In case of nausea after eating: It may be due to foreign objects in the stomach causing obstruction of the pylorus and duodenum. The person feels nauseous, has indigestion and often vomits undigested food mixed with old food.
