Of the seven injured, one remains in critical condition. Six others are being treated in hospital for minor injuries from burns and cuts from broken glass.
The local fire department sent 20 vehicles and more than 100 personnel to the scene. Search and rescue operations lasted until 4 a.m., according to Chinese media reports.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping called the blast a “heartbreaking accident” and said it was a “profound lesson.” He ordered authorities at the scene to “make every effort” to treat the injured, strengthen safety supervision and protect the safety of residents.
