In the first 6 months of 2024, total tourism revenue in Ho Chi Minh City is estimated at VND 92,643 billion, up 14.6% over the same period in 2023, reaching 48.8% of the 2024 plan. Domestic tourists to Ho Chi Minh City are estimated at 17,135,045 arrivals, up 4.4% over the same period in 2023, reaching 45.1% of the 2024 plan; international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City in the first 6 months of 2024 are estimated at 2,678,275 arrivals, up 38% over the same period in 2023, reaching 44.6% of the 2024 plan.
The city has welcomed and worked with more than 84 domestic and foreign delegations to learn about the business investment environment and discuss trade and investment promotion activities.
Ho Chi Minh City organized 88 domestic and foreign trade and investment promotion activities, attracting more than 9,935 businesses to participate, promote and introduce products, expand consumption markets, through a series of events to promote and introduce market information.
International exhibitions, specialized product exhibition weeks; business-to-business (B2B) connection activities between domestic enterprises and foreign enterprises, retail corporations, modern distribution systems; training and coaching activities to support enterprises in building brands, improving product quality, developing markets and integrating into the international economy; a series of conferences to attract and call for investment in key industries and key projects of Ho Chi Minh City.
Nearly 2.7 million international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City in the first 6 months of 2024
By the end of June, trade and services in Ho Chi Minh City were bustling with many programs implemented to stimulate consumption and serve people's entertainment needs during the summer tourist season.
Revenue from accommodation and catering services in June 2024 is estimated at VND 11,123 billion, accounting for 11.2% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, up 3.5% over the previous month and up 3.0% over the same period.
Of which, revenue from accommodation activities increased by 2.1% compared to the previous month and increased by 19.1% compared to the same period; revenue from food and beverage services increased by 3.7% compared to the previous month and increased by 0.9% compared to the same period.
In the first 6 months of 2024, accommodation and food service revenue is estimated at VND 62,523 billion, up 8.1% over the same period. Of which, the accommodation industry increased by 43.3% and the food service industry increased by 3.9%.
Travel services in June 2024 are estimated at VND 3,917 billion, up 19.6% over the previous month and up 55.5% over the same period. In the first 6 months of 2024, travel services revenue is estimated at VND 19,049 billion, up 63.3% over the same period.
In the second quarter of 2024 alone, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached an estimated VND 284,042 billion, an increase of 5.9% over the same period.
Of which, travel services increased by 64.3%, retail sales increased by 8.7%; accommodation and catering services increased by 2.7%; other services decreased by 0.3%. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, total retail sales and consumer service revenue in the second quarter increased by 3.9%, of which retail sales increased by 4.8%, accommodation and catering increased by 6.3%, travel services increased by 28.6%.
To complete the goals and targets of the 2024 Socio-Economic Development Plan, in the last 6 months of the year, Ho Chi Minh City will strive to implement the tasks and solutions stated in Resolution No. 93/NQ-CP dated June 18, 2024.
One of the tasks and solutions mentioned by Ho Chi Minh City is to focus on developing the domestic market in conjunction with the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods". Diversify investment promotion activities and methods, closely linking investment promotion activities with trade and tourism promotion activities.
Approve the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Development Strategy to 2030. Continue to implement the Smart Tourism Development Project in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021-2025, focusing on the project "Building a tourism service database system". Implement the Ho Chi Minh City tourism stimulus program in 2024.
The Department of Tourism coordinates with other departments to complete a series of monthly brand events, promote early investment, implement solutions to turn Ho Chi Minh City into a destination, extend the length of stay of tourists from 3 days to 5 days, and implement solutions to connect with provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
