Flappy Bird Game is Coming Back to iOS and Android, No Longer by Nguyen Ha Dong

Flappy Bird is a simple yet addictive game where users simply tap the screen to control a flapping bird flying through green tubes. Thanks to its highly addictive simplicity, Flappy Bird exploded in popularity, reaching millions of downloads and generating a lot of hype.

Sadly, Flappy Bird didn’t last long as Nguyen felt “overwhelmed by its popularity and ubiquity” and had to remove the game from stores, despite admitting that it was making him $50,000 a day. The game’s disappearance was quite shocking and led to people selling iPhones with Flappy Bird pre-installed for thousands of dollars (the same thing happened later with Fortnite). Now, eleven years later, Flappy Bird is back.

The upcoming release has been announced on flappybird.com. The “rehatched” version of the game will be released on Android and iOS sometime in 2025, with the promise of several upgrades over the first version. The updates include a new set of characters, skill training, matchmaking, round-robin mode, and more.

Speaking about the game’s revival, the Flappy Bird team said: “Just a decade ago, I was the talk of the town and soaring to new heights with my 100 million friends. Sadly, I had to give up the fame and the spotlight to return home and find my true self. Thanks to my Flappy Bird fans, I am refreshed, reborn, and ready to fly high again. This decade-long mission included acquiring the legal rights and even working with my predecessor to free me and recreate the official Flappy Bird game.”

This means that the return of Flappy Bird is not due to Nguyen Ha Dong, but rather a group of fans of the game who bought the copyright before releasing the game again. While waiting for the sequel to be released, fans can spend time playing the original through the unofficial web version.
