FIFA is impatient because it has not reached a TV copyright agreement

The expanded Club World Cup, which will feature 32 clubs, will take place in the summer of 2025 (June to July). But FIFA has yet to reach an agreement on television rights, making President Gianni Infantino very impatient. In addition, it is likely that the tournament will not attract many sponsors, affecting expected revenue.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is very worried about the 2025 Club World Cup

"FIFA initially held talks with Apple, which holds the exclusive rights to broadcast MLS (USA), but no suitable deal was reached," according to The Athletic . "Thus, FIFA's recent emergency meeting was aimed at finding a new partner to secure a broadcasting deal for the 2025 Club World Cup," the newspaper added.

One of them, FIFA is targeting CBS Sports (USA). However, CBS Sports CEO David Berson admitted that the channel holds the copyright for major UEFA tournaments, so FIFA tournaments are not a priority. "We will look at how much value is added during that period, before making a decision," David Berson told The Athletic .

According to AS (Spain): "FIFA promised to pay each top club participating in the 2025 Club World Cup $50 million each. But so far, the clubs have not received any official announcement, including how the tournament's prize will be distributed."

The 2025 Club World Cup currently has 30/32 official clubs participating, with only 2 spots left, including 1 for the South American regional champion and the host team of the United States, expected to be Messi's Inter Miami club.

Why will the players strike?

In the opening round of the Champions League this week, top European players have officially criticized FIFA and UEFA, when increasing the number of matches in cup competitions and opening the Club World Cup 2025.

Players are tired from playing too much, there are many serious injuries.

"They only think about money, while ignoring the voices of the players," Man City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne emphasized. "If this situation continues, we will have no other choice," Man City midfielder Rodri spoke out about the possibility of the players going on strike.

UEFA tournaments such as the Champions League have increased the number of matches in the new format, while FIFA also opened the Club World Cup from 2025, so players will play an increased number of matches to 75-80 matches/season. Including national championships, domestic cups and international matches for the team. For example, player Julian Alvarez, who is now at Atletico Madrid, played last season with Man City, the national team and the Argentina Olympic team with a total of up to 75 matches.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca : "Many in the football community are also frustrated. Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has suggested that a strike may be necessary to force action from decision-makers. High-profile figures such as coach Pep Guardiola, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, defender Dani Carvajal and midfielder Bernardo Silva have also spoken out about their dissatisfaction with the demands of the current busy playing schedule."

Conversely, some players, such as Juventus' Nico Gonzalez, have defended the current fixture schedule, arguing that it allows young players to benefit from increased playing time and that rest, combined with proper nutrition, can help manage physical stress.
