On June 14, Vice Admiral Herve Blejean, Chief of Staff of the European Union (EU) Military Staff, affirmed that Western countries will not send soldiers to replace Ukraine in directly confronting Russia in the conflict.

Sharing on French television, Mr. Blejean said that deploying infantry to Ukraine means becoming a belligerent and falling into conflict with Russia.
“Nobody wants that, not the EU or NATO. We are not in conflict with Russia,” said Vice Admiral Blejean.
According to him, Kiev's current counter-offensive campaign is "not the end of the conflict, regardless of the outcome."
The statement by the head of the EU Military Staff was made after former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen suggested that member states of the organization, such as Poland and the Baltic states, could form a “coalition of the willing” and deploy troops to support Ukraine.
Earlier, on June 13, during a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg affirmed that, with help from the West, Kiev is making progress in its counter-offensive campaign to push back the Russian army.
According to Mr. Stoltenberg, the counter-offensive campaign is a measure to gain negotiating leverage, because “the more territory the Ukrainians control, the more power they have at the negotiating table.”
