According to documents revealed by the Financial Times , the above information was given according to a secret plan drafted by the EU.
Brussels has drawn up a strategy to target Hungary’s economic weaknesses, hit its currency and undermine investor confidence, and hurt jobs and growth if Budapest does not abandon its veto of the Ukraine aid package.
The document, published by the Financial Times , states that if no agreement is reached by February 1, the EU will publicly announce that, due to the unconstructive behavior of the Hungarian Prime Minister, the bloc will not be able to provide the EU budget to Budapest.
Commenting on this information, Hungary's EU Minister Janos Boka told the Financial Times that Budapest knew nothing about this financial threat, but the country would not accept being pressured.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is a rare EU leader who has maintained a neutral stance, refusing to impose sanctions on Russia.
On February 1, EU leaders will attend a special conference to discuss the budget to support Ukraine.
The 50 billion euro budget cannot be approved by the EU because Mr Orban has not approved it.
