DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023 athletes will swim in an inverted triangle shape, with a straight swimming distance to optimize performance and ensure safety.

A week before the official competition day, the DNSE Aquaman Vietnam 2023 biathlon tournament organizers announced information about the swimming route for all distances. Accordingly, the Aquaman distance (2km swim, 21km run) and Half Aqua (1km swim, 10km run) will start with a straight swim, then swim in an inverted triangle shape.

Specifically, from the starting point, athletes swim straight for 150m, then swim in a triangle and continue swimming straight to complete the race. Aquaman athletes swim two triangle laps and Half Aqua athletes swim one lap.

According to Mr. Duong Hai Anh - in charge of the Aquaman Vietnam swimming route, previously, the Organizing Committee proposed many route options such as U-shape, T-shape. Finally, with research and advice from professional partners, the Organizing Committee chose the inverted triangle swimming route.

This route has fewer turning points and changes of direction, helping to ensure safety and optimize performance for athletes. Having a straight swim section of more than 100m also helps athletes increase performance, increase distance between groups, and avoid crowding.

"With this layout, the water flow will not fluctuate, the waves will be calm, the further you swim, the calmer the waves will be. Athletes will experience the feeling of conquering the downstream, cross and upstream waves," the leader of the swimming lane shared.

According to locals, during the Aquaman Vietnam tournament (October 29), Phan Thiet sea had gentle and calm waves. The tournament area was Bikini Beach, located in the NovaWorld complex, with flat terrain, the furthest section from shore was 200 meters and only about 3 meters deep, so it was suitable for many types of athletes, from elite to first-time competitors.

With the two distances Sprint Aqua (500 m swimming) and AquaKid (200 m swimming), athletes only need to swim in a straight line.

The buoy system is spread evenly along the entire swimming route. In which, the large triangle buoy is the turning point signal, while the large and small tube buoys and buoy lines help athletes orient themselves on the race track and hold on to them when needed to handle situations that arise. However, participants are only allowed to hold the buoy in place, not to hold on to the buoy to swim forward. In the outer circle, the Organizing Committee arranges a rescue team of SUP paddlers and motorized inflatable boats, ready to support athletes.

The above swimming route plan will be implemented under ideal weather conditions. On the race day, based on the actual situation, the Organizing Committee will make changes to ensure the safety of the athletes. The running route will be announced in the near future.

Before the competition day, the Organizing Committee will allow athletes to experience the swimming lane and transition area from 9:00 to 11:30 on October 28. This activity will help athletes get familiar with the wave, current, and wind conditions, thereby making appropriate tactical adjustments.

On the official competition day, athletes have 5 hours to complete the Aquaman distance, in which the cut-off-time (COT) for the swim alone is 80 minutes. For the Half Aqua distance, the COT is 2 hours 30 minutes and 40 minutes of swimming. The Sprint Aqua distance has a cut-off time of 25 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes respectively.
