The mural road along Vo Nguyen Giap coastal road (Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City) is a colorful space with impressive "fishing village stories". However, recently, this mural road has fallen into a desolate state, lacking tourists.

According to Thanh Nien reporters, in early August, although Da Nang is in the peak summer tourist season, tourists are not interested in this place.

The Da Nang coastal mural road was once expected to be a new tourist product to attract visitors, but after a period of time, this space is now in a state of desolation.

The beginning of the mural street near the Lang Ong area (Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District) is deserted with tourists, the street becomes quiet.

The mural street was implemented by the People's Committee of Son Tra District (Da Nang City) in the alleys adjacent to Lang Ong area (in group 12, Man Thai Ward) with a length of nearly 400m, an area of over 1,200m2.

Mr. Huynh Van Muoi (residing in Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City) said that tourists only came to visit at first, but recently they have completely disappeared, with only locals moving on the mural road.

The number of visitors coming to visit and take photos is increasingly sparse, causing many "copycat projects" of local people to fall into a slump. Mr. Le Van Truoc's mural cafe (Vo Nguyen Giap street) is completely deserted.

According to Mr. Truoc, in 2022, when the locality puts the mural road into operation to serve tourists, local people will meet to discuss and develop a plan to create a livelihood and trade on the mural road.

"Not just me, many fish sauce producers have asked local authorities for permission to set up fish sauce sales tables, but after a while, everyone closed down because there was no purchasing power," Mr. Truoc confided.

The "fishing village smile" is still there but tourists are no longer interested.

Women in the fishing village set up tables and opened fish sauce shops for a while, but business fell into a slump.

Explaining why tourists are not interested in the Da Nang coastal mural road, Mr. Ho Dinh Nam Kha, Chairman of the Da Nang Fine Arts Association, said that the current mural road is just a "demo" for the future coastal mural village project. Tourism products in the Lang Ong area are still quite "poor" so they have not created any attraction for tourists.

"The second phase of the mural village project has been approved by Da Nang City and is being prepared for implementation. Phase 2 will resurface the road here, add more pictures, and invest in sound, lighting, and souvenir stalls..., which promises to create an artistic space that attracts tourists to visit and experience the Da Nang coast," informed the Chairman of the Da Nang Fine Arts Association.
