VOV.VN - The mountainous region of Khanh Hoa province has many agricultural products such as durian and green-skinned grapefruit, which have high economic value, but their consumption is not yet sustainable. Improving the quality and design of agricultural products, linking consumption and selling through e-commerce platforms are solutions being implemented by industries and businesses to ensure stable output for people.
Khanh Son mountainous district, Khanh Hoa province has many advantages in agricultural development. The whole district has more than 3,300 hectares of fruit trees with high economic value. Of which, there are more than 2,600 hectares of durian and 350 hectares of green-skinned grapefruit. Maximizing the advantages of soil, Khanh Son district has been focusing on implementing the Project to transform and develop the local agricultural sector, producing high-value agricultural products, diversifying according to the value chain, in accordance with market requirements.
Khanh Son has gradually shifted from an agricultural supply chain to an industry value chain. Along with that, the district has shifted from single-sector development to multi-sector integration, from one value to multiple-value integration; from only supporting inputs to supporting both inputs and output connections...
In August 2024, Khanh Son District People's Committee successfully organized the 3rd Khanh Son Fruit Festival, attracting more than 18,000 visitors, consuming 130 tons on the spot. At this festival, businesses connected with farmers to consume products. This is a stable sales channel to avoid dependence on traders as before.
Mr. Le Duy Tien, Khanh Son Green Agriculture Company Limited, Khanh Hoa province said: “If growing durian is successful, after deducting expenses, it will bring in an income of 400-500 million VND. Not many ethnic minorities do business. Some of us have set up businesses and go to the provinces to trade at fairs. We have gone to Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Tay Ninh, Dak Lak... Every day we go, we learn more experiences in selling durian to help the business develop further. Including the skills to attract customers to learn about us.”
In the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh, the district People's Committee has implemented the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, and so far, 6 products have been certified with 3-star OCOP. These are Thai Tuong, Son Nguyen, Hieu Linh, Viet Tan, Minh Kien green-skin grapefruits and Ngan Nguyen green-skin grapefruits. In addition to promoting and connecting agricultural product consumption for farmers, the government also supports farming households and cooperatives to organize training courses on farming techniques, grasp market knowledge, and meet the increasing demands of the market... Enterprises have linked up and guided ethnic minority households from land preparation, seeding, plant care to harvesting agricultural products. For example, Ngan Nguyen Fruit and Agricultural Products Import-Export Company Limited is linking up with 26 households, with a total area of about 35 hectares.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan, Director of Ngan Nguyen Fruit and Agricultural Products Import-Export Company Limited, hopes that the linkage will help improve the quality and form to consume agricultural products better: “Export has many strict requirements, so we have not exported much, only 10% of total output. To export better, we need to have a chain of links between farmers, consumers, and local authorities. Thereby, bringing back the most effective farming techniques, creating a stable quality raw material area, with a more standardized form, we will be able to export better”.
In recent times, Farmers' Associations at all levels in Khanh Hoa province have closely coordinated in accompanying and supporting farmers in implementing the contents of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period. In particular, focusing on a number of projects and sub-projects directly related to people, especially ethnic minority farming households in particularly difficult villages and communes. The goal is to guide farmers to produce goods, form and develop specialized areas for crops and livestock with high productivity and quality. At the same time, build and develop agricultural products in a diverse, unique and high-quality direction.
Mr. Le Quoc Toan, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Farmers' Association, said that in the current context, e-commerce is inevitable to consume agricultural products. However, people in mountainous areas are still hesitant to approach and have not boldly put their products on commercial floors. Therefore, Khanh Hoa Farmers' Association has gone to gardens and fields to provide training in the direction of "holding hands and showing work" to farmers in mountainous areas.
“Durian and green-skinned grapefruit have been put on e-commerce platforms a lot. We train ethnic minorities to livestream sales on social media platforms, and connect with YouTubers and TikTokers to train them right in their gardens. When they go on e-commerce platforms, in addition to selling, they will recognize the market’s signals about what kind of designs and products they need. From there, they can organize production to meet consumer demand,” said Mr. Toan.
