Bringing the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership to a New Height

On May 25, during his working visit to Japan and attendance at the 28th Future of Asia Conference in Tokyo, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang met with Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and Chairman of the Komeito Party (ruling coalition) Yamaguchi Natsuo.

Speaking with Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang congratulated Japan on successfully organizing the expanded G7 Summit with many meaningful contents, contributing to solving global issues.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked Minister Hayashi to pay attention to implementing the contents discussed at the recent high-level talks between the two countries' Prime Ministers in Hiroshima, including ODA cooperation, investment, trade, tourism, local cooperation, and people-to-people exchange.

Emphasizing Vietnam's interest and desire for Japan to prioritize participation in Japan's support program to build high-quality infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region (75 billion USD), the Asian Energy Transition Initiative (AETI, 10 billion USD), the Deputy Prime Minister proposed that Japan provide new-generation ODA to Vietnam with higher incentives.

As Head of the Vietnamese Steering Committee for activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to actively coordinate with the Vietnamese side to organize meaningful commemorative activities; requested the Japanese Government to continue to have many policies to care for and support Vietnamese people in Japan to live, study and work conveniently, including considering exemption of income tax and visa exemption for Vietnamese citizens entering Japan.

Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang's visit to Japan; thanked Vietnam for its active, effective and responsible contributions to the success of the recent G7 Summit; affirmed that Vietnam holds a leading position in implementing Japan's foreign policy in the region; and highly appreciated Vietnam's increasing role and position in the international arena, as well as the socio-economic achievements it has achieved in recent years.

Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa affirmed that Japan will continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in its development in many fields, including continuing to promote ODA cooperation with Vietnam in areas of Japan’s strengths and high technology; and suggested that the two sides discuss ways to bring the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership to a new height in the coming time.

Minister Hayashi highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts and achievements in improving the investment environment in recent times; affirmed that Japanese enterprises consider Vietnam a leading important partner in the process of diversifying supply chains in the region.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa also discussed a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue, Japan-ASEAN cooperation, etc.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang met with President of the Workers' Party Yamaguchi Natsuo.

At the meeting with Komeito Party Chairman Yamaguchi Natsuo, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang thanked the Komeito Party for its important contributions in its role as the ruling party coalition to the development of Vietnam-Japan relations in recent times, and hoped that the Komeito Parties would support the Japanese Government's proposals related to Vietnam, and support and promote the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership to new heights.

Regarding the areas of cooperation between the two countries, the Deputy Prime Minister agreed with Chairman Yamaguchi's proposal to increase exchanges through the National Assembly Party channel between the two countries, including promoting exchanges between parliamentarians, especially female and young parliamentarians, and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in many fields; and requested the Komeito Party to support measures to facilitate Vietnamese people to enter, live and work in Japan.

President Yamaguchi Natsuo welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang to visit Japan on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and attending the 28th Conference on the Future of Asia.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang agreed with Chairman Yamaguchi's proposal to increase exchanges between the two countries' National Assembly Party channels.

President Yamaguchi highly appreciated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation's visit to Hiroshima, the historic city, to attend the expanded G7 Summit, considering this a testament to Vietnam's support for a world of peace and no nuclear weapons; affirmed that the Komeito Party has been and will continue to support and cooperate to further deepen the Vietnam-Japan friendship and cooperation; agreed to urge the Japanese Government to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Japan.

President Yamaguchi also appreciated the fact that the two countries have many cultural exchange activities, including the Vietnam Festival at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people, which is especially loved by the Japanese people in general and Tokyo in particular; expressed his wish to lead a delegation of Komeito Party parliamentarians to visit Vietnam in 2023.
