Bringing Ngoc Linh ginseng to every part of the country and the world

From a district with one of the highest poverty rates in the country, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam aims to bring Ngoc Linh ginseng to all parts of the country and the world, helping this locality become the "capital of Ngoc Linh ginseng", the center of rare medicinal varieties of the country.

The opening ceremony of the 5th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival and the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of Nam Tra My district (Quang Nam) took place on the evening of August 1 with the participation of leaders and former leaders of Quang Nam province and Nam Tra My district through the periods, along with a large number of people of the district. Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Nam province, Mr. Phan Viet Cuong delivered the opening speech of the event.

Mr. Phan Viet Cuong said that Ngoc Linh ginseng has been present in Ngoc Linh mountain area, Nam Tra My, Quang Nam for generations. This is also a particularly rare medicinal herb, with unique value, with unique characteristics that other ginseng species in the world do not have, is a national product, the "green gold" of the country.

In June 2023, the Prime Minister approved the Program for developing Vietnamese ginseng to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The province has issued many policies and strategies to implement the conservation and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng with the goal of building and developing Vietnamese ginseng into a high-value commodity, a key product in the field of medicine, pharmacy and health care, with a national product brand; contributing to creating jobs and income for people, developing the socio-economy of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas.

Provincial Party Secretary Phan Viet Cuong emphasized that in recent years, ethnic minorities in Nam Tra My district have focused on developing Ngoc Linh ginseng as a key crop to escape poverty.

Accordingly, organizations, businesses, households and groups of households have participated in growing Ngoc Linh ginseng with a total area of ​​nearly 810 hectares, about more than 3 million plants; the price of Ngoc Linh ginseng has gradually stabilized; scientists have focused on investing in research, applying scientific and technical advances to growing, producing and deeply processing ginseng products. In particular, ginseng growers have been aware that growing ginseng goes hand in hand with protecting and developing forests.

With the goal of introducing and promoting Ngoc Linh ginseng, other medicinal herbs and tourism potential in the district to a large number of people, tourists, domestic and foreign investors, Mr. Phan Viet Cuong affirmed that the 5th Ngoc Linh ginseng festival is an important event to convey the messages of Ngoc Linh ginseng to all parts of the country and the world, striving to build Nam Tra My district into a key medicinal herb region of the country.

Along with the 5th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival, on this occasion, Nam Tra My district also organized events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the district's re-establishment. The Provincial Party Secretary acknowledged, commended and congratulated the great achievements that the Party Committee, government and ethnic people of Nam Tra My district have strived to achieve throughout the past period.

According to him, the 5th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival and the results displayed and promoted today once again affirm that Nam Tra My has been very successful in the process of implementing strategic orientations, sustainable development policies and creating a brand for Ngoc Linh ginseng.

Entering a new period, the Secretary of Quang Nam Province requested that the Party Committees and authorities at all levels of Nam Tra My district need to promote the revolutionary tradition and achievements over the past 20 years; focus on leading and successfully implementing the goals and tasks set out in the Resolution of the District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.

Mr. Phan Viet Cuong requested Nam Tra My district to continue to effectively exploit the potential and strengths of the locality, on the basis of existing mechanisms and policies, combining and integrating resources to invest in socio-economic development; effectively implementing the Vietnam Ginseng Development Program to 2030, with a vision to 2045 in conjunction with national target programs.

Along with that, the province needs to promote investment, call for and encourage businesses to cooperate with people to invest in developing raw material areas, exploiting and processing products; propagating, guiding and attracting people living near forests, especially ethnic minorities, to participate in planting, caring for and protecting Ngoc Linh ginseng trees in conjunction with strengthening forest management, protection and development, effectively exploiting the planting of Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal plants under the forest canopy; determined to build Nam Tra My district to truly become the "capital of Ngoc Linh ginseng", the center of rare medicinal varieties of the country.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Nam province, Mr. Phan Viet Cuong presented the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Nam Tra My district with a banner with the content: "Party Committee, government and people of Nam Tra My district unite - overcome difficulties - develop".

After the ceremony, many locals and tourists enjoyed a unique art program, imbued with the sounds and colors of ethnic groups in Nam Tra My and mountainous districts of Quang Nam province.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony of the 5th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival and the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of Nam Tra My district, invited guests and the public were able to attend special performances such as: The procession of the Ngoc Linh ginseng symbol with nearly 30 participants and the Ngoc Linh ginseng God worship ceremony performed by village elders; the art program "Ngoc Linh - Aspiration to reach far" with songs praising the homeland and country.

Nam Tra My is one of the 6 mountainous districts of Quang Nam province, located on the Southwest traffic route, an important gateway connecting Quang Nam province with the Central Highlands region, known as the "capital" of Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng.

In recent years, Nam Tra My district has maximized its potential and advantages, promoted the development of indigenous crops with high economic value, suitable for local soil conditions; in particular, focused on preserving rare genetic resources and forming concentrated areas for growing medicinal plants and Ngoc Linh ginseng.

Ngoc Linh ginseng area is planned to be about 15,000 hectares in 7/10 communes of the district; there are over 1,250 households participating in ginseng cultivation on an area of ​​over 2,000 hectares, annual output reaches about 10 tons, value is about 420-600 billion VND/year.
