Plan to build a resettlement area of 5 hectares in Lang Nu, 3km from the old place

(Dan Tri) - The Bao Yen district government (Lao Cai) is surveying a 5-hectare land area downstream of Lang Nu village to build a resettlement area for Lang Nu village, which has just experienced a terrible flash flood.

On the afternoon of September 13, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Tran Trong Thong, Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee, said that functional units are surveying, measuring and determining the location to build a resettlement area for 37 households in Lang Nu. This place is located downstream of Lang Nu village, about 3km away and still within the village's boundaries.

"We have had staff survey an empty land of about 5 hectares to plan to build a resettlement area. The criteria for choosing a place to live are absolute safety for the people, with adequate space, electricity, water, and green space. The construction funding comes from socialized sources. In the immediate future, the district will arrange temporary housing for 37 households who lost their homes," said Mr. Thong. According to Mr. Thong, there is currently no specific time to build the resettlement area. The government is planning a survey and then making a detailed plan. The horrific flash flood occurred at around 6 a.m. on September 10, when floodwaters mixed with rocks and soil from Con Voi Mountain suddenly rushed down, flattening 37 houses of people in Lang Nu village. The latest update from authorities as of 11 a.m. on September 12, the total number of dead and missing victims in Lang Nu village was 112 people. Of which, 17 people died on the spot. So far, search forces have found 43 more bodies, leaving 52 people missing.
