The Tonkin Palace is not only a building, but also a historical witness to important events of the country. This place used to be the Palace of the Governor of Tonkin, the Palace of the Imperial Envoy of Tonkin and was the place where many important historical events took place such as the General Uprising to seize power in 1945.
As part of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, this is a special creative space. And this is also the first time the place is open to the public.
Today, the Government Guest House is still the venue for many important events of the capital. Not only is it a historical and cultural relic, it is also a destination not to be missed by tourists when coming to Hanoi. The Bac Bo Palace is currently the place to serve the foreign reception activities of the Party, the State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the picture is one of the two reception rooms on the first floor, open for visitors to see from the outside.
The Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 with the theme "Creative Crossroads" will bring the public different experiences, helping the community to appreciate history more and inspire creativity to inherit and continue the creative values that previous generations have built and left behind.
The interior spaces of the Bac Bo Palace building were introduced to the public and tourists for the first time.
The ancient French architecture of the Tonkin Palace attracts a large number of people and tourists to visit on this occasion.
For many people living, studying and working in Hanoi, they have probably passed by this place many times but have never set foot in this space.
Many foreign tourists visit this place for the first time. "I am lucky to come to Vietnam at this time, I can visit the Bac Bo Phu building, the Opera House, the University... and many other beautiful architectural works" - Ms. Sophia, a French tourist shared.
The Bac Bo Palace building is associated with historical events such as the August 1945 General Uprising, and is also where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked after the August Revolution until the National Resistance Day, the Capital Liberation Day on October 10, 1954.
The Bac Bo Palace has three floors, including a basement, but only part of the first floor is open for visitors to visit and learn about the building through posters on the wall. The visiting space is small but always crowded with visitors from morning to afternoon.
"It was really touching and emotional to come here and read the historical documents," said Dang Thanh Ha, a resident of Ba Dinh District. Ha added that the creative design festival brings people closer to the city's iconic structures.
One of the highlights here is the "Touch Point" installation art exhibition project.
The main character is the bullet holes on the iron fence in front of the Government Guest House (Bac Bo Phu) which are made clearer.
These are bullet holes bearing traces of the battle on December 20, 1946 between the National Guard Company protecting the Northern Palace and the French colonialists.
Paint marks and transparent bullets are highlighted to further emphasize the heroic historical vestiges.
The exterior space of the Bac Bo Palace is where the "Present" exhibition complex is displayed with 43 glass panels forming a circular arc guiding visitors. The glass material allows viewers to see through the clear, fresh color blocks to see the unique sculptures in the exhibition.
The space of the Bac Bo Phu building is attracting many young people to visit.
A Pavilion space opposite the Northern Palace, where the public and visitors can admire the entire building as well as take souvenir photos.
The Bac Bo Phu building will be open during the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024.
