On February 22, Dong Thap province held a conference to announce the Dong Thap Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. The Dong Thap Provincial Planning has been approved by the Prime Minister.

Dong Thap has an area of nearly 3,400km² and a population of nearly 1.7 million people. In 2023, the province's economic scale will reach 110,000 billion VND, with an average income per capita of 60 million VND.
Dong Thap is a key agricultural production province, ranking 3rd in the country in total rice output, reaching 3.3 million tons/year; ranking 4th in the country in seafood export, reaching nearly 900 million USD.
Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia said that Dong Thap Provincial Planning chooses to develop 3 pillars in harmony: Economy - Society - Environment. The provincial planning has shaped the development space through the structure: 4 socio-economic regions, 3 economic corridors, 4 central cities.
"This is considered a balanced development structure, linking and supporting each other between the central and border areas, between urban and rural areas, taking agricultural economy as the driving force to create a strong development foundation," said Mr. Nghia.
According to the planning target, by 2030, Dong Thap will have a fairly developed level, be one of the agricultural production and agricultural processing centers of the region; have a synchronous infrastructure system, modern urban areas, and rural areas rich in identity.
It is expected that by 2030, Dong Thap's per capita income will reach about 160 million VND.

To achieve these goals, Dong Thap province needs to carry out key tasks including building expressways, upgrading the road and inland waterway traffic system; forming high-quality agricultural and aquatic production areas associated with product value chains; developing urban chains associated with regions and economic corridors...
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai requested Dong Thap province to urgently research and develop a detailed and scientific plan to implement the provincial planning.
"The planning will open up new opportunities and development space for Dong Thap province, expected to create new momentum for Dong Thap to develop breakthroughs," Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized.
