In Myanmar, although the authorities have not yet been able to estimate the loss of life and property after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake this afternoon, the emergency room of the 1,000-bed hospital in the capital Naypyidaw is overloaded with long lines of injured people lying around.
The injured continued to arrive at the hospital in various vehicles. Many were covered in blood and dirt.
According to Myanmar's Global New Light newspaper, the earthquake collapsed two bridges and damaged a highway.
Myanmar authorities have declared a state of emergency in six of the worst-hit areas and called for foreign aid.
In a related statement, a spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the agency is gathering information on the earthquake aftermath as well as Myanmar's humanitarian aid needs.
