Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên12/10/2023

In the preparation phase for the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia, up to now, the Vietnamese team has played 4 A-level friendly matches. Of which, the team won 3 victories during the FIFA Days, respectively against Hong Kong (1-0), Syria (1-0) and Palestine (2-0). Most recently, the Vietnamese team visited Dalian Stadium in China and lost with a score of 0-2.

Looking back at this defeat, Do Hung Dung said: “The result of the match with China was not as the team expected, but the Vietnamese team learned useful lessons, good for the future. Because this was a friendly match with a strong opponent. Only when facing a strong opponent can we reveal our mistakes. Fortunately, these mistakes happened in friendly matches. That is a lesson for the Vietnamese team to look forward to in official matches. The whole team hopes not to repeat such mistakes again. The matches with China, Uzbekistan and Korea helped the Vietnamese team improve their playing style and be more confident in the upcoming journey.”

Do Hung Dung (8) is one of the three captains of the Vietnamese team during FIFA Days in October.

The midfielder of Hanoi FC added: “Right after the match ended, the whole team gathered to adjust our spirit. We had a meeting, reviewed the match tape to learn from experience. The whole team has lessons for ourselves both individually and collectively. We will continue to aim for positive things such as better ball control, maintaining physical strength... In addition, Vietnamese players need to overcome and limit personal mistakes and defensive positions. I believe the Vietnamese team will further improve the above issues in the future.”

Tomorrow night (October 13), the Vietnamese team will have another practice match in Dalian City, when they meet the Uzbekistan team. This is a match for the professional work of the coaching staff of the two teams, so it will not be considered an official friendly match. After this match, the team will move to Korea and end the October FIFA Days schedule with a friendly match against the Korean team, taking place on October 17.

Commenting on the match with the Korean team, Do Hung Dung said: “This is a rare opportunity for the Vietnamese team, when facing a high-class team, 70 places higher than us on the FIFA rankings. We have the opportunity to experience a team that has participated in many World Cups. I think this will be an extremely difficult match, but it is an opportunity for the players to compete with opponents at a very high level. I believe we will learn a lot from this match.”

The Vietnamese team is practicing hard for the match against Uzbekistan.

Midfielder Do Hung Dung, along with defender Que Ngoc Hai and midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc, are the three captains of the Vietnamese team during the training and tour in October. He is also one of the "leading birds" guiding the young players who are being given the opportunity to try their hand at the national team by coach Troussier. According to Do Hung Dung, the fact that many young players are promoted to train and compete in the Vietnamese team is a very good thing for the future of Vietnamese football.

“The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is aiming for a long-term goal, preparing for the 2026 World Cup and the 2030 World Cup. The fact that young players are trained and played with experienced seniors helps them progress faster. In friendly matches, young players also have the opportunity to play and compete with top opponents. Hopefully, with such opportunities, they will quickly progress, develop and become pillars of the Vietnamese team in the future. I always support the coaching staff, helping young players to be confident and enter the field to play football with the best spirit,” Do Hung Dung shared.

Young player Vo Minh Trong (17) may be given a chance to play.

Returning to the training session on the evening of October 12 of the Vietnamese team, coach Philippe Troussier continued to hone his ball control style of play, strengthen the organizational structure of the team and propose solutions to correct the errors revealed in the previous match. The French coach also calculated suitable personnel plans for the friendly match with Uzbekistan. Some key players may be relieved of their duties to ensure the best force for the away match at the home ground of the Korean team.
