2024 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad team set out

The 17th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics - IOAA 2024 will be held in Brazil. After a rigorous selection round, the 5 contestants who became official members of the team are all students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. They are: Nguyen Ba Linh, Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Luu Quang Minh, Nguyen Thi Thu Minh, 12th grade Physics 1 students and Dam Ngoc Bao Lam, 11th grade Physics 1 students.

According to teacher Le Manh Cuong (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), a teacher participating in training the team, since its establishment, the team has had about 1.5 months of intensive training. Teachers and students of the team have devoted themselves to training every day of the week with high intensity in both theory and practice.

On behalf of the members, Nguyen Ba Linh - Captain of the IOAA Vietnam 2024 team expressed his gratitude to the Board of Directors of the Department of Education and Training, teachers, and parents for creating favorable conditions for the students during the review process. Although the study time was very short, thanks to that attention, encouragement, and their own efforts, the students had good knowledge, confidence, and were ready to go to the exam.

At the Departure Ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong congratulated the 5 students; at the same time, emphasizing that becoming an official member of the Vietnamese team participating in the IOAA 2024 exam is a source of pride for the students, their families, and their schools. He hopes that the students will be calm, confident, creative, and achieve high results to bring glory to the country and to the capital Hanoi.

It is known that the Hanoi student delegation represented the Vietnamese team to participate in the IOAA competition for the first time in 2016 and won 1 Silver Medal and 4 Encouragement prizes.

Since then, with the authorization of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi student delegations participating in the competition have achieved excellent results, winning many Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, affirming Vietnam's position in the international intellectual arena. Notably, at the 2019 IOAA competition, Nguyen Manh Quan, a physics major student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, excelled and won the Gold Medal with the highest overall score.

Most recently, at the 2023 IOAA exam, the Hanoi student delegation of 5 candidates from the Physics 1 class, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted competed with all their might and achieved very proud results with 2 Silver Medals, 2 Bronze Medals, ranking 17th overall.
