Coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "I am very sorry to miss Huynh Nhu, but playing for an international club is an honor for Huynh Nhu in particular and Vietnamese women's football in general. I support this!
Although it is regrettable, we will also make changes to respond. Especially young players will be given the opportunity to develop their best qualities. Hopefully, when Huynh Nhu is absent, young players will try their best."
Previously, Huynh Nhu's name was not on the official list of the Vietnamese women's team attending ASIAD 19. The reason is that ASIAD 19 is not a FIFA tournament, so Lank FC refused to release her.
The striker born in 1991 just had her debut match in the 2023/2024 season with Lank FC in the Portuguese women's national football championship (lost 0-8 to Sporting Lisbon).
This afternoon (September 19), the Vietnamese women's team left for Wenzhou city (Zhejiang province, China) to begin their journey at the 19th ASIAD.
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team's flight is expected to last nearly 4 hours with a transit at Guangzhou International Airport, before landing in Wenzhou city at 6:55 p.m. the same day.
At the group stage of ASIAD 19, the Vietnamese women's team is in Group D with opponents Japan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Commenting on Group D, Coach Mai Duc Chung said: "Among these opponents, we have met Japan many times. I have information that they brought a young team to the 19th ASIAD, but even though they are young, Japan's level is still very good.
As for the Nepalese women's team, we also just met them in the first round of the Olympic qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's team won both the first and second leg matches, but we cannot be subjective because the other team has good physical strength and many good individuals. I highly appreciate the striker of the Nepalese team, this player moves very quickly and is as strong as his male counterpart.
As for the Bangladesh women's team, we have never met them, but the coaching staff has also asked the technical department to provide more video tapes for research."
Regarding the goal at ASIAD 19, coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized: "The team tries to play well in each match, going as far as possible into the next round. It must be said that we always need young athletes in the squad.
I need to calculate and take responsibility for professional issues. Right after each season or international tournament, we always have to train the next generation of young players to prepare for the long-term future."
