The Vietnamese athletics team won three more gold medals at the 12th ASEAN Para Games thanks to the excellent performances of athletes Vo Van Tung, Truong Bich Van and Trinh Cong Luan.
The 12th ASEAN Para Games took place in Cambodia from June 3-9. |
At Morodok Techo National Stadium in the capital Phnom Penh of Cambodia, Vo Van Tung excellently brought home the gold medal in the men's shot put F34 disabled category with a score of 7.3m.
Meanwhile, his teammate Truong Bich Van also won first place in the women's shot put category F56, with a score of 6.49m.
In the F56 javelin throw category, athlete Trinh Cong Luan achieved a feat with a result of 24.49m. His result was 5m better than the runner-up.
Thus, as of 4:30 p.m. on June 6, the third official competition day of the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the athletics team has contributed 8 gold medals to the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation.
Previous achievements were thanks to athletes Tran Van Nguyen (discus and javelin throw, disability class F40-41); Nguyen Thi Hai (shot put and javelin throw, disability class F57) and Ngo Thi Lan Thanh (javelin throw, disability class F55).
At the 11th ASEAN Para Games, athletics contributed 15 gold medals to the overall achievements of the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation. Therefore, this sport continues to be considered a "mine" of medals for the Vietnamese delegation at this year's games.
Competing at the 12th ASEAN Para Games with 26 athletes, the Vietnamese athletics team did not set heavy targets for the athletes to create mental comfort.
The team will strive to compete well to at least repeat the achievement of winning 15 gold medals as at the 11th ASEAN Para Games held in Indonesia in August 2022.
