On the evening of September 7, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team arrived at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) after a journey of more than 10 hours from Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was not on the flight back home. The striker born in 1997 flew straight from Thailand to Japan to join the PFU BlueCats Club to prepare for the new season.
Welcoming the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at Noi Bai airport was General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong. Mr. Truong and other benefactors presented a bonus of 200 million VND to the entire team for reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 Asian Championship.
Having just returned home, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team did not have time to rest but immediately started preparing for the 19th Asiad. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team moved straight from Noi Bai airport to their base in Quang Ninh and began training on September 8.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that the PFU BlueCats Club has agreed to let Thanh Thuy return to serve the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at the 19th Asiad. According to the plan, the 1m93 tall main attacker will join the team on September 18 and complete some procedures to attend the 19th Asiad.
The 19th Asian Games women's volleyball event will take place from September 30 to October 7 in Hangzhou (China) with the participation of 14 top teams from the continent. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group C with South Korea and Nepal.
According to coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team aims to reach the quarterfinals and will strive to reach the semi-finals if given the chance. The best achievement of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in this tournament is 6th place at the 2018 Asiad.
