The only student team to win a data award organized by the Police Department

(Dan Tri) - A group of students from the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University is the only representative from a university in the top 5 of the Data with Life competition.

With the competition topic "Method of detecting phishing websites based on multi-modal deep learning to avoid end-user protection", W1.Shark team - students of the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, surpassed nearly 200 teams nationwide to win the third prize with a prize worth 50 million VND. The application that the team entered is called Shark-eyes, after being installed on the user's web browser, can operate automatically, protecting users in real time from phishing websites. Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang - Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the W1.Shark team consists of 2 members, including Vo Quang Minh and Bui Tan Hai Dang, both majoring in information security - talent. They are also members participating in scientific research at the Wanna.W1n Club under the school's InSecLab Information Security Laboratory. This achievement affirms the talent and efforts of the students themselves when they are the only representatives from the university to win a high prize. The Data for Life 2023 competition is organized by the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (C06), Ministry of Public Security in coordination with other units from August 7, 2023.

The competition aims to attract resources from the young talent community to join the Ministry of Public Security and the Government to promote creativity, form practical information technology ideas and products. The solutions revolve around three pillars: digital government - a solution to promote effective public services, digital society - promoting social security services, and digital economy - promoting economic development. Data for Life 2023 went through 3 rounds with nearly 200 teams: Online application round (197 teams), preliminary round (41 teams), final round (10 teams). The topic "Application of AI in detecting fake license plates of cars circulating on public transport routes" of Son La Provincial Police won first prize thanks to its accuracy and practical implementation ability, receiving a prize of 200 million VND.
