'Facing Son Heung-min is an interesting experience'

" Son Heung-min is a world-class player, so it's an interesting and challenging experience for me ," center-back Nguyen Thanh Binh said in an interview before the Vietnamese team's training session on the afternoon of October 3. Today is the first training day for him and his teammates in the October gathering, preparing for three friendly matches against China, Uzbekistan and South Korea.

This is the final stage in the preparation of the Vietnamese team towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After winning all 3 first matches under coach Philippe Troussier, the Vietnamese team will face the strongest opponents in Asia. The upcoming challenge is significantly more difficult.

" The three upcoming opponents are all very strong. Korea is the team I look forward to meeting the most because they have many stars playing abroad, " said defender Nguyen Thanh Binh.

Not only Korea, China and Uzbekistan are also quality teams for the Vietnamese team to compete and hone their playing style. Against strong opponents, controlling the ball and imposing an attacking style of play will not be easy for the Vietnamese players.

" When facing strong opponents, the coach wants us to play well and make it difficult for them in each match. Before training, coach Troussier often discusses and shares how to play confidently and how to control the match. Against strong teams, he shows the players what to do ," Thanh Binh revealed.

In this training session, the Vietnam team has called up a list of 33 players. Half of them are players under the age of 23. Coach Philippe Troussier clearly expressed his intention to renew the team with continuous experiments.

" The current Vietnam team has many good players, especially the young players. They perform well in each training session, in line with the head coach's philosophy . I am most impressed with Khuat Van Khang. He is in the same club so I understand Khang's expertise well ," Thanh Binh said.
