On the morning of June 16, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and OSB Technology Company - Official authorized agent of Alibaba e-commerce platform, organized the Workshop "Improving cross-border online export skills through e-commerce".
The workshop was attended by nearly 100 manufacturing and trading enterprises, associations, business households, cooperatives, universities and colleges in Hanoi.

Businesses have caught up with the trend of e-commerce.
According to the Vietnam E-commerce Index Report 2022 announced by the Vietnam E-commerce Association, Hanoi's e-commerce index (EBI) ranked second in the country, reaching 85.9 points; B2C e-commerce sales are estimated to account for 11% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the area; the proportion of Hanoi's population participating in online shopping is estimated at 50%; the proportion of businesses conducting business activities on e-commerce platforms is estimated at 45%.
Mr. Ta Dung Tri, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department - Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, said that businesses in Hanoi have caught up with the trend of using e-commerce platforms to reach domestic and international customers to expand export markets. This has contributed significantly to economic growth and promoted local development.
In the first 5 months of 2023, despite many difficulties due to political instability in the world, Hanoi's export turnover in the first 5 months of the year reached 6.781 billion USD and imports reached 14.4 billion USD. To achieve the above results, there is a significant contribution from e-commerce.
Despite achieving remarkable results, the representative of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade also acknowledged that bringing e-commerce into export also poses some difficulties and challenges. Specifically, businesses face fierce competition from other countries, limited e-commerce management skills, difficult and complicated customs and international shipping procedures... "These are issues that need to be focused on to improve the efficiency of online export and create favorable conditions for businesses" - Mr. Tri affirmed.

Therefore, Mr. Tri emphasized, the workshop will bring businesses a valuable opportunity to solve the above difficulties and challenges. “We will have the opportunity to listen and learn from leading experts in the field of e-commerce and export - those who have successfully applied and developed online exports. We will have access to important information on how to take advantage of technology, build marketing strategies, overcome legal barriers and other limitations,” Mr. Tri said.
Bringing Vietnamese products to the international level
At the workshop, speakers focused on discussing policies to support businesses in promoting cross-border exports; Sharing logistics solutions; Global e-commerce and import-export trends; Export opportunities for Hanoi businesses on the Alibaba.com e-commerce platform; Sharing experiences from successful online export businesses and lessons learned for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Regarding the potential of cross-border e-commerce in the digital age, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Director of the Center for E-commerce Development, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said that cross-border e-commerce is currently a booming trend in many countries around the world, in which Southeast Asia is still considered to have great growth potential.
“In Vietnam, this is also a field that is assessed to have a lot of potential and is suitable for the digital economic development policy set forth by the Government,” Mr. Thanh emphasized, and commented that Vietnam's cross-border retail sales of goods are expected to reach VND256.1 trillion by 2026.

Discussing solutions to bring Vietnamese goods to the international level with cross-border e-commerce, the Director of the Center for E-commerce Development said that Decision 645/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2020 of the Prime Minister on approving the National E-commerce Development Master Program for the period 2021 - 2025 aims to train and support sales on e-commerce platforms in general and cross-border e-commerce platforms in particular such as www.alibaba.com, www.ecvn.com; Annual e-commerce events to stimulate domestic market demand and expand cross-border e-commerce activities; Project "Promoting enterprises to directly participate in foreign distribution networks until 2030" (according to Decision 1415/QD-TTg); Incentives under some FTAs that Vietnam participates in: CPTPP, EVFTA, UKVFTA, FTAP, AANZFTA...
As a co-organizer of the event, Ms. Pham Thom - Head of Export Consulting, Alibaba.com's official authorized agent in Vietnam, shared many interesting contents related to global e-commerce and import-export trends. In particular, emphasizing Alibaba's companion role, Ms. Thom affirmed: "60% of suppliers had no e-commerce experience before joining Alibaba.com. This means that if you already have some e-commerce operation skills, you are in a better position than many current sellers. If not, we are here to help you."
Ms. Thom shared and suggested to businesses an effective sales roadmap on Alibaba in 12 months with specific stages and milestones such as: First 3 months, register as Gold Supplier, set up minisite data and post products on Alibaba.com, participate in training; Next 3 months, register at least 100 products, learn about KFQ and KWA keyword advertising, learn how to analyze data to orient businesses, participate in training; After 3 months, continue to post products (200 products), analyze performance to improve the store to reach 3-5 stars; optimize inquiry letters and RFQ to increase the chance of closing orders, analyze data and improve service, participate in training; Last 3 months, continue posting products, use KWA to increase traffic, reach more potential customers, evaluate inquiry letters and classify buyers, closing skills, continue to participate in training, plan for next year...
The training program has contributed to helping Vietnamese businesses, business people, and young human resources quickly grasp the necessary knowledge and skills in a systematic and methodical manner with information that has been guaranteed and continuously updated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade through the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy and the Alibaba.com e-commerce platform to bring Vietnamese products to the global market through cross-border e-commerce.
