During the participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation, chaired by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, had a working session with the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, before visiting and burning incense at the Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space.
From October 13, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation chaired by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications went to Germany to participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2024 and learn and exchange experiences in developing a reading culture in the city of Bologna (Italy).
On the morning of October 15, the working delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, visited and worked with the Organizing Committee of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Claudia Kaiser, Vice President of Frankfurt Bookfair and Ms. Nicole Grüner, Head of Southeast Asia at Frankfurt Bookfair. Here, members heard information about the Book Fair, the number of exhibitors and copyright agents participating, the outstanding events, as well as the guests of honor of the book fair.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi thanked Ms. Claudia Kaiser as well as the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee for always paying attention to the Vietnamese publishing market, especially Ho Chi Minh City, as well as providing much support for Vietnamese booths participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair every year.
It is known that before the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms. Claudia Kaiser coordinated to organize many events in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi such as organizing seminars on copyright, sharing experiences on organizing Book Fairs, attending Ho Chi Minh City Book Fair...
On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi shared the publishing situation in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general, as well as activities to promote reading culture in Ho Chi Minh City. He also expressed his desire to hear more about the experience of organizing international book and cultural events, especially how to connect and attract publishing partners around the world.
Ho Chi Minh City plans to organize the first International Book Fair in 2026, before that is an event in response to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025. These are major events on books and reading culture of the city to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Mr. Hoi invited Ms. Claudia Kaiser as well as the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee to join the city in the above events.
In addition, the delegation also asked for information on the conditions and criteria for Vietnam to soon become a Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair. According to Ms. Claudia Kaiser, to become a Guest of Honor, the country needs to have a roadmap to prepare both procedures and content, especially a sufficient number of Vietnamese books translated into English and German to be introduced regularly at the book fair over a period of time.
After working with the Frankfurt Book Fair Organizing Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation visited and presented books to the Vietnamese Consulate in Frankfurt, aiming to connect the culture between Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnamese community in Germany.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese Consulate has built a Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space to promote Uncle Ho's diplomatic activities, and the Vietnamese community can come here to learn about documents on studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
