Phu Yen Although he hit a pothole at the beginning of the race, the Army athlete, Do Quoc Luat, still won overwhelmingly in the men's 10km race at the national championship on the morning of March 31.

Quoc Luat finished after 31 minutes and 12 seconds, leaving his juniors such as Dao Minh Thien, Luong Duc Phuoc, Trinh Quoc Luong far behind... This result is even better than the 31-year-old runner's achievement when he won the championship last year - 31 minutes and 20 seconds.

Quoc Luat’s victory was decided by a brilliant sprint in the second half of the race, when he broke away from the pack and gradually widened the gap with the group behind. At the finish line, the military athlete raised his fist in the air and made a heart shape with his hands, facing the spectators.

"I arrived in Phu Yen early and prepared well for the tournament. I am very happy that my efforts were rewarded. I am proud to defend my gold medal and win this race for the 10th time. At the start, the large number of athletes caused me problems and after running about 100m, I hit a pothole and twisted my foot a bit. However, fortunately, that incident did not affect my performance," said Quoc Luat after finishing.

Last year, when the tournament was held in Lai Chau, Quoc Luat broke the record of the legendary Bui Luong with his ninth consecutive national championship. This year, he set a new record, taking the sole position of the person who won the most gold medals in the history of the tournament, one more gold medal than the legendary Bui Luong.

The Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship - Tien Phong Marathon - is the 65th edition this year, with 11,500 athletes competing. Of these, there are more than 11,000 amateur athletes and 250 professional athletes from units across the country. The tournament has 12 events for athletes of the professional level and eight events for amateur athletes.
