Speakers from 6 countries attend FPT Education's language conference

Experts from the US, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Poland and Vietnam discuss scientific methods in language teaching and learning at the FCLE 2024 conference.

FPT Education held the FCLE 2024 Language and Education Conference on January 21 at FPT University Can Tho. The event was attended by more than 30 speakers, lecturers and experts from 6 countries, along with many representatives from agencies, universities and high schools in Can Tho and neighboring provinces.

Here, experts presented 32 research papers, including a number of excellent works that will be published in rEFLections Journal - Q2 journal according to the ISI/Scopus index.

The FCLE 2024 conference has three plenary sessions presented by Prof. ZhaoHong Han - Columbia University (USA), Assoc. Prof. Obaid Hamid - University of Queensland (Australia) and Professor 1 Thanis Tangkitjaroenkun - Thonburi University of Technology (Thailand), Editor-in-Chief of Q2 reFLEctions Journal.

In which, Associate Professor Obaid Hamid (University of Queensland, Australia) shared about the diversity of English used by non-native speakers. The plenary speaker of FCLE 2024 emphasized the importance of language semantics, which should be addressed before talking about accuracy. He concluded that users need to master, instead of being "slaves" of language.

A correct understanding of language functions and cultural identity helps lecturers, students, and scientists have the right motivation and methods to understand, use, and research language effectively. In the context of educational globalization, each education system and each country must train and conduct quality language research to have in hand the tools for communication, learning, research, and effective use in work and life.

Continuing the workshop, Prof. ZhaoHong Han (Columbia University, USA) analyzed in depth the methods of foreign language teaching, changes in teaching methods, aiming at developing language skills for learners. The speaker also proposed some solutions to promote and improve foreign language teaching methods in the context of current technological development.

In addition, Professor Thanis Tangkitjaroenkun (Thonburi University of Technology, Thailand) also summarized popular English teaching methods from 1950 to present. The speaker commented that recently, language has developed in terms of its instrumentality, English is used as a tool for working, studying, communicating... Along with the advancement of technology, teaching methods and English experiences for students have also changed a lot.

According to experts, Vietnamese universities have the potential to deeply integrate with world education and will have more scientific basis and practical experience in implementing training and language research from these shares.

In addition, within the framework of FCLE 2024, lecturers and experts from FPT Education, domestic and foreign universities also presented 32 research papers revolving around the topic of scientific methods in language research and teaching. Speakers raised practical issues about language teaching in the digital age, learners' motivation when learning online, cross-cultural communication, specialized foreign language training methods, etc.

A representative of FPT Education Organization said that this is the first time the unit has organized a scientific conference on language and education to open a quality academic event. Here, lecturers, experts, and researchers can exchange, share, improve their expertise and connect academically on language. At the same time, the unit also aims to make FCLE an annual conference to regularly exchange science, seize opportunities to cooperate in applying scientific research in the language industry to teaching and learning activities.

In addition to academic exchange activities, FCLE 2024 is an opportunity for lecturers and experts from many countries to experience the culture and life of the Mekong Delta region. At the end of the event, four excellent research papers were awarded the title of "Best paper", including three studies by Vietnamese authors and one study by Polish author.
