More than 1 million candidates nationwide have completed the 2024 graduation exam. Many teachers this year predict that graduation exam scores will be higher than last year.
Analyzing the Math exam , Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, a Math teacher (Thu Duc High School, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the difficulty of the exam, from question 1 to question 30 are questions of recognition and understanding. These questions are worth about 6 points and many students will certainly be able to do it. Questions from 31 to 38 are of understanding and application.
These questions are quite good for students to do well. From question 39 onwards are application and high application questions. In this question compared to the 2023 graduation exam, the difficulty is slightly higher and the questions are also more unusual.
Analyze the structure of the exam according to the matrix, the exam closely follows the matrix (knowledge) of recent years. In the 50 questions, the first 45 questions are from the 12th grade program and 5 questions are from the 11th grade program. The content of the questions covers the entire 12th grade Math program. The last questions require the mobilization of many knowledge units, belonging to different contents to solve.
Analyzing the exam according to the score structure of the exam, starting from the structure according to difficulty, many candidates will be able to get a score of 6 or above. Scores of 9 or above will not be as many as in recent years, because the difficulty and strangeness of the following questions are different. With this exam, scores from 0 to 4 may not be many and scores of 10 will also be less than last year.
Regarding the ability to differentiate the test, the test is structured in increasing difficulty so the score can be evaluated, meeting the requirements for graduation and university admission. The average and above average number of questions is about 30 to 35, the difficult questions are about 5 to 7. Therefore, candidates have many opportunities to get graduation scores.
However, to get university entrance scores for top universities or hot faculties, candidates need to do well on questions 38 and above. These questions have increasing difficulty, suitable for evaluating university candidates. In general, the test has the ability to differentiate candidates highly.
Mr. Tuan Anh said that the exam has difficult and strange questions. These difficult questions are at the end of the exam. Compared to the current textbook program, this exam is really difficult for students. In the case that candidates have been trained for the exam and are familiar with the exam, the questions in the exam may be familiar. For students, the last questions are certainly very difficult, to do them requires a lot of knowledge, including general knowledge. If they only stop at the 12th grade program, candidates cannot do it.
Mr. Lam Vu Cong Chinh, a teacher at Nguyen Du High School (HCMC), said that compared to the 2024 sample exam, the 2024 high school graduation exam is more difficult. Questions related to cones and cylinders only account for 2 questions at the level of recognition and understanding. This may be because this knowledge is not included in the 2018 general education program applied in the next school year. The average score for Math is predicted to be from 6.5 to 7.0.
The remaining subjects' exams are considered easy, even safe. For Literature , lecturer Nguyen Phuoc Bao Khoi (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) said that the test makers prioritize safety, but the differentiation of the exam is still guaranteed (mainly in question number 3 of the Reading Comprehension section, the way to develop ideas in the Social Argumentation section and the short comments in the Literary Argumentation section), the expected exam scores are concentrated around the threshold of 6.5-7.0.
In English, Mr. Tran Ngoc Huu Phuoc, Head of the English Department at Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) commented that this year's exam was easy. Most of the knowledge was in the English program for grade 12. However, the exam still had many questions of a classification nature.
These types of questions mainly fall into the vocabulary test and idiom test sections. Compared to the past 1-2 years, the exam is somewhat easier. Specifically, the difficulty of the reading section is not as difficult as every year. Although the vocabulary questions fall into the high application category, students can still use the context to guess. "In general, if you just study the knowledge of the English 12 program carefully, students can easily achieve over 8 points" - Mr. Phuoc said.
Teacher Pham Le Thanh (HCMC) expressed his opinion that the Chemistry exam was "easy", keeping the structure and level of differentiation relatively stable and not much fluctuation. In the first 21 questions, all the theory was at the level of recognition and understanding, mainly the 12th grade program.
From the 22nd question onwards, the basic exercises are gradually differentiated from low to high. The highest differentiation is in the last 7-8 questions, including general theory questions and chemistry problems. With this test, average and good students can easily achieve 6.0 - 7.5 points. Good students can achieve from 8.0 to 8.75 and excellent students who have mastered the knowledge for all 3 years can achieve over 9.0 points.
Regarding Physics, Mr. Bui Manh Tan, Head of the Physics Department at Bui Thi Xuan High School, said that this year's exam still follows the same spirit, structure and level of differentiation as the 2023 exam. The questions are arranged from easy to difficult, mainly knowledge of grade 12 high school. This year, grade 11 only takes 2 theoretical questions and has no exercises.
In terms of content and level, from question 1 to question 32, the level is easy, students can easily complete these questions. From question 33 to question 35, the difficulty level is increased, good and excellent students can solve them within their ability. From question 36 to question 40, there are 5 high-level application questions, distributed in 5 contents such as spring pendulum, mechanical wave interference, light wave interference, alternating current and nuclear. Teacher Bui Manh Tan predicts that the Physics score spectrum will be mostly concentrated in the range of 7.5 to 9 points.
Ms. Doan Thuy Nga, Head of Biology , Bui Thi Xuan High School (HCMC) said that the exam for this subject increased the number of theoretical questions and reduced exercises. The differentiation of the exam is shown in the last 10 questions, each question is in the form of counting sentences, quite long and complicated. The questions are presented in the form of graphs, images, and practical applications, requiring students to apply good reading comprehension skills, have the ability to analyze, reason, and understand the nature of biological processes to be able to handle the problem...
Similarly, the exams for Geography, History, and Civic Education were also assessed as easy and relaxed, allowing candidates to easily achieve high scores.
Mr. Pham Thai Son, Admissions Director, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that in terms of difficulty and openness, this year's graduation exam is similar to previous years, there is nothing special. Mr. Son predicted that the graduation exam scores will be high and the benchmark scores will also increase. Specifically, the expected benchmark scores this year at top schools such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy... will be about 0.5 points higher than last year, because Literature and Natural Science subjects are easier than last year.
As for the top universities, Mr. Son predicts that the admission scores will be the same or not much higher than last year, or if they increase, they will only increase by a maximum of 1 point, while the rest of the universities will remain the same as last year.
At the University of Industry and Trade, Mr. Son advised candidates with scores equal to or higher than last year to apply because last year the school's admission score was moderate while the quota had increased.
