More than 100,000 people have registered for the public bicycle service via the app with nearly 135,000 trips, after more than two months of operating this type of service in the capital.

The public bicycle rental service has been deployed in Hanoi since August 24. The company has deployed 1,000 bicycles, including 500 electric bicycles, at 79 stations near tourist attractions, bus stations, and elevated trains.

As a regular customer of this service, Ms. Tran Luong Phuong, Dong Da District, said that she has completely switched from motorbike to bicycle to go to work. Both her home and workplace are less than 5 minutes away from the rental station, so it is quite convenient. "I only use a motorbike when I have urgent matters to attend to," Ms. Phuong said.

Having accumulated nearly 60 km of cycling on the app, Mr. Nguyen Huu Bao, Cau Giay District, said that every weekend he travels to Kim Ma, parks his motorbike at the shopping center, then switches to public bicycles to go to the Old Quarter. "Using a bicycle helps me save on transportation costs around the Old Quarter. Watching the streets slowly on the weekend is also an interesting experience," Mr. Bao said.

Ms. Phuong and Mr. Bao commented that the bike rides quite smoothly and is light to pedal, but the shock absorbers are a bit stiff. Some others complained that the bike often runs out at tourist attractions and that children under 1.3 m tall have difficulty using the bike if traveling in a family group.

A representative of Tri Nam Group, the enterprise implementing the project, said that after more than two months of operation, more than 100,000 people have registered for the service via the application, with nearly 135,000 trips and 840,000 km traveled. Hanoi deployed this service after Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Da Nang (with more than 2,500 vehicles), but has the largest number of vehicle users, accounting for over 50%.

The buses are used by many people from 6-9am and 5:30-9:30pm, many of which connect to the Cat Linh - Ha Dong elevated railway. "The number of buses in Hanoi is still low compared to demand, we are developing a plan to expand and increase the number of vehicles," said Mr. Do Ba Quan, representative of Tri Nam.

According to Mr. Quan, the service did not encounter any major problems, but there were cases where users forgot to lock their vehicles when returning them, so someone else took them away, forcing the unit to retrieve them via GPS.

The rental bicycles are equipped with smart locks, GPS positioning, and can be locked or unlocked via 2G, 3G, 4G, and Bluetooth connections on mobile phones. Users install the TNGO app on their phones, scan for nearby stations, and then use the app to scan the code to unlock the bike.

There are currently two types of bicycles in use: regular bicycles and electric bicycles. The rental price for electric bicycles is 10,000 VND for 30 minutes and 5,000 VND for mechanical bicycles. If the rental exceeds the amount charged, the renter can top up the next time.

The stations are unattended, and renters can return their vehicles at any station. For the convenience of users, the service provider currently has a team to collect vehicles when customers return them at the wrong station.
