With the Global Talent certificate, Huy Hien will be allowed to work and reside permanently in the UK, without any further constraints.
Ngo Le Huy Hien (born in 1998) is a Vietnamese man who has just been recognized by the British Government as a Global Talent and an Emerging Leader in Digital Technology. Global Talent is a certificate awarded to individuals with achievements and contributions in a number of fields including: Academics/Research, Arts and Culture, Digital Technology. According to statistics from the British Government, each year only about 4 individuals in Southeast Asia are certified in the same category. "When I received the certificate, I burst into tears because all my efforts over the years have finally been recognized," Hien said.

Hien is a former student of Computer Science and Engineering at Da Nang University. Since entering university, understanding the importance of having a strategy and direction for himself, Hien wrote a list of 100 things he wanted to do in life, including visiting 20 countries around the world. Right from his first year, the Da Nang boy continuously looked for opportunities to participate in short-term, fully-funded exchange programs abroad. He persistently submitted his application but received rejection letters 12 times. Instead of being discouraged, Hien found his own weaknesses to improve. "I actively participated in more domestic programs and activities to improve my profile, re-took the certification exams to achieve higher scores, and developed more skills..." Thanks to his constant efforts, Hien has received many short-term programs with fully-funded scholarships to go abroad. “After each program like that, like a fish stretching out to the ocean, I feel like I am still small and have many unknown things,” Hien said. Each trip also helps Hien get to know good and talented friends, making the male student want to experience more. Hien's goal at that time was to study abroad and live long-term in a certain country. In 2020, before graduating from university, Hien received 3 full scholarships for the Erasmus Mundus master's program sponsored by the European Union. This 2-year program brings together many excellent students from all over the world . In the first 3 semesters, Huy Hien studied in France, England and Sweden. In the final semester, the male student was allowed to choose a project topic and carry it out in any country in Europe. Hien chose England as the place to do his master's project, then returned to France to defend it. There were stressful times, Hien studied up to 20 hours a day. But thanks to that, in these 2 years, the 9X Viet received the award for the Student with the Best Project at a school in England and the award for the Best Master's Project of the Erasmus Mundus master's program. In 2022, Huy Hien graduated with honors with 4 master's degrees from the joint program, including Computer Science, Information Technology, Complex Systems Engineering, Green Computer Networks and Cloud Computing. In 2020, Hien received a full scholarship for the Erasmus Mundus master's program. After graduating with a master's degree, Hien lived and worked in the UK for 2 years as a manager at technology companies. Although he received a high salary, the 9X said that these positions were very competitive and it was difficult to get sponsorship to stay. A few months before his UK visa expired, the young man from Da Nang actively looked for companies that could sponsor him to continue working in the UK. After many interviews, although he was very impressed with the Vietnamese man's ability, most companies refused him because of visa issues. "At that time, my spirit was down and I started thinking about leaving the UK to look for opportunities in other countries," Huy Hien said. When everything seemed to be over, a chance meeting with a female professor who taught in the master's program gave Hien a glimmer of hope. After hearing Hien talk about her upcoming departure from the UK, the professor advised Hien to try applying under the Global Talent program. “She said that although this was the most difficult visa category, and she had never met anyone who had passed it, she believed she should give it a try,” Hien recalled. Hien decided to try applying, considering it her last attempt before leaving the UK.Huy Hien is living and working in England. (Photo: NVCC)
To grant the Global Talent certificate, the British Government agency will review the candidate's history of achievements and contributions over many years. In the field of digital technology - which is Hien's expertise - 9X needs to satisfy many strict criteria such as: innovation in the role of a leader of a digital technology company, having documents published in specialized publications, significant contributions to technical improvements, outstanding research and excellent academic achievements, etc. Up to that point, Hien had 12 articles published in prestigious international scientific journals. 9X used to be the leader of an international technology cooperation project on AI with professors in the UK and France, and also received support funds from the European Union and organizations for AI research. Hien is also a reviewer for highly ranked international scientific research journals in the field of AI and major international scientific conferences; participated in guiding many individuals from different countries in research projects on engineering technology. Normally, certification applications would be processed within 8 weeks. However, after only 7 days, Hien's application was approved. "That was something I never thought of," Hien said.(Photo: NVCC)
Looking back on the journey, Hien believes that the most meaningful thing is not what achievements he has made but the values he can contribute to the community and the experiences of studying and working in many places. To date, Hien has set foot in 48 countries and territories on 5 continents through the process of studying, exchanging and working. “I always think that pressure can crush a person or make him sharper. Luckily, I have turned pressure into motivation for myself to grow more and more. In the future, I hope I can contribute to becoming a bridge for Vietnamese businesses to develop more in the UK and Europe,” said the young man from Da Nang.Vietnamnet.vn
