The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam is not only a valuable asset of the Capital, of Vietnam, but it has also become a cultural asset and heritage of humanity. Over the years, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, a spiritual relic site, a symbol of wisdom and the tradition of studiousness, has been an attractive cultural tourist destination, making strong contributions to the development in all aspects of the capital as well as the whole country.
The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic site is located in the south of the ancient Thang Long citadel. The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam has been recognized by the Prime Minister as a special national relic in Decision No. 548/QD-TTg dated May 12, 2012. Khue Van Cac at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam was chosen as the symbol of the Capital according to the Law on the Capital, 82 Doctorate steles at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam were recognized by UNESCO as Documentary Heritage and recorded in the Global Memory of the World list. These things have shown that the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam is not only a valuable asset of the Capital, of Vietnam, but it has also become an asset, a cultural heritage of humanity. In recent years, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, a spiritual relic site, a symbol of wisdom, and a tradition of studiousness, has received special attention from authorities at all levels, creating many conditions to become a relic, an attractive and appealing destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
The architectural complex of the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy includes: Van Lake, the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy area and Giam garden with the main architecture being the Temple of Literature - the place to worship Confucius and the Imperial Academy - the first university of Vietnam.
The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam area is surrounded by brick walls, inside divided into 5 layers of space with different architectures. Each layer of space is limited by brick walls with 3 doors to connect with each other (including the main door in the middle and two side doors on both sides). From the outside to the inside, there are the gates: Van Mieu gate, Dai Trung gate, Dai Thanh gate and Thai Hoc gate. With more than 700 years of operation, training thousands of talents for the country, up to now, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam is a place for domestic and foreign tourists to visit, a place to praise excellent students and also a place to organize an annual poetry festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month, a place to organize many cultural and scientific exchange activities. Also here, on every occasion of Lunar New Year or before each exam, candidates often come to ask for the first calligraphy of spring from the scholars and pray for luck in exams and studies.
Currently, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam is an attractive cultural tourist destination, making strong contributions to the development of all aspects of the capital as well as the whole country. Since 1962, the relic has been ranked nationally by the Ministry of Culture and is now a special national relic, 82 steles have been honored by UNESCO as world documentary heritage. The relic has always received special attention from the City, organized to manage, protect and promote its value. In 1988, the City established the Center for Cultural and Scientific Research of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam and assigned the task of directly and comprehensively managing the relic. Currently, the main architectural items in the relic have been renovated and restored to serve the needs of conservation, value promotion, and tourism exploitation of the capital as well as the whole country.
