Understanding of depression has improved compared to the past, but stigma remains prevalent, leading many people to not accept their condition, hide it, and not seek care and support.
Family members of people with depression also face difficulties due to a lack of knowledge about depression or not knowing how to support their loved ones.
When seeking support, people with depression also face difficulties finding information about where to provide care.
The seminar "Walking Through the Darkness - A Journey to Self-Manage Depression" was organized by Caring From Distance - a social organization committed to using science and available resources to create positive changes to improve mental well-being.
The program is based on the book "Depression and Self-Management Skills for Depression " by Dr. Tran Kieu Nhu - founder of Caring From Distance - and the research results of "Tele-SSM: An initiative applying telephone technology in assisted self-management of depression skills in Vietnam".

The seminar aims to raise awareness and understanding of depression, as well as to provide scientific knowledge about depression.
This helps people realize that depression isn't as scary as they think; in fact, these difficult periods can be meaningful, and there are tools and skills available to overcome them.
The series of seminars, held in all three regions of Vietnam, aimed to help the community gain a correct understanding of depression and recognize that these stages also have a certain significance. And they have the tools and skills to stand up, overcome challenges, and seek the right support when needed.
More than just a panel discussion and stories shared by experts, speakers, and guests, the program offers an experience of "seeing," "listening," and "feeling" the journey through depression.
Here, Dr. Tran Kieu Nhu and other speakers will talk to the audience about the signs and causes of depression, obstacles related to gender stereotypes, generational differences in accessing care, and discuss practicing self-management skills for depression.
The audience also had the opportunity to hear from participants who had practiced depression self-management skills, sharing their stories and scientific knowledge about these skills.
Alongside the panel discussion, there was an exhibition showcasing 17 paintings by people who have experienced or are currently experiencing depression and their reflections on their journey; activities reflecting on the meaningful difficult phases of life for each individual; and musical performances that fostered emotional connection and spread messages about the meaning of life.
Dr. Tran Kieu Nhu will be signing copies of her book "Depression and Self-Management Skills for Depression" at the end of the program. Registration link: https://forms.gle/FY9axP8APXMFFx5u8
