In a report posted on its official website on September 14, the Canadian government said that an interagency working group had determined that there was no evidence that the health symptoms experienced by Canadian employees working in Havana, Cuba were caused by an external agent.
With this statement, Ottawa went against the accusations of the US Federal Intelligence Agency (CIA) about the so-called “Havana syndrome”, as Canadian authorities found no evidence of so-called “sonic attacks” on embassy staff in Havana from 2017 to 2018.
Underlying medical conditions, environmental factors and common illnesses may be important contributors to many of the symptoms experienced by Canadian diplomats, the report said.
Earlier, on September 1, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla announced on his X account that the alleged sonic attacks on diplomatic personnel, known as the “Havana syndrome”, were just a pretext for Washington to adopt a stronger political approach towards Havana.
