Going to Europe, should I choose a direct flight or transit?

I'm going to Europe for the first time this fall and am looking for tickets but wondering whether to fly direct or transit.

I am choosing a flight ticket to Europe this fall, I want to fly directly to save time but the ticket price is too high, about 10 million VND more than transit. My friends advise me to transit because it is cheaper, I don't have to sit on the plane for too long, I can relax when I get off at the transit airport.
