Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Hanoi Medical University are among the top 1,000 universities in the world.

On October 9, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the world's best university rankings in 2025. Vietnam has 9 representatives, the most ever.

Although it is the first time appearing in the rankings, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is ranked 501-600, the highest among Vietnamese higher education institutions. Next are Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University, ranked 601-800.

Also ranked for the first time, Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University are in the 801-1,000 and 1,201-1,500 groups.

The rankings of the following units include: Hanoi National University in group 1201-1500, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hue University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology in group 1501+...

Except for three new faces, the remaining 6 representatives of Vietnam all kept their rankings from last year.

In addition to the 9 representatives above, Van Lang University is on the list for the first time with the status of "reporter" (reported group) but has not been ranked.

9 Vietnamese universities have just entered THE's 2025 world university rankings (Screenshot).

Globally, Oxford University retained its top spot for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which rose to second place, overtaking Stanford University, which dropped to sixth. The schools in the top 10 are mainly in the US and UK.

Harvard University rose from fourth to third place, and Princeton University also rose from sixth to fourth.

The 2025 THE rankings include 2,092 higher education institutions from 115 countries and territories. To create this ranking, THE evaluated based on 18 criteria, divided into 5 groups, including: Teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%), technology transfer (4%).
